Every nap. Every night. A safer place to sleep. 💙

October is Safe Sleep Awareness Month, and Putnam County EMS wants every caregiver to remember the ABCs:

💤 A — Alone: Keep baby’s sleep space free of pillows, blankets, bumpers, toys, and weighted products.
💤 B — Back: Place baby on their back for every sleep until their first birthday.
💤 C — Crib: Use a safety-approved crib, bassinet, or play yard with a firm, flat mattress and fitted sheet only.

Share your room while keeping baby on a separate sleep surface for at least the first 6 months. Never sleep with baby on a couch or armchair.

Avoid overheating and head coverings. Keep baby’s environment free of smoke and v**e exposure. Breastfeeding, routine vaccinations, and offering a pacifier at sleep time can help reduce risk. If breastfeeding, wait until it is established before introducing a pacifier.

Tummy time is for awake, supervised play.

Parenting is demanding. If you need help finding a safe crib, ask your pediatrician about local resources.

Save this reminder and share it with everyone who cares for your baby.

🌟 Feature ’em Friday 🌟
This week, we're excited to feature Paramedic Amanda Roberson!

Amanda has dedicated 8 years to EMS, including 5 years with Putnam County EMS. One of the things she enjoys most about her career is having the opportunity to serve the community she calls home and care for her fellow residents when they need it most.

When she's off duty, Amanda enjoys crocheting, getting lost in a good book, and playing card games with family and friends. She's also a proud pet mom to Yzma, her tabby cat; Bailee, her Lab/Pit Bull mix; and the newest addition to the family, Kronk, a lovable Rottweiler puppy. 🐱🐶

When it comes to ice cream, Amanda's favorite is Ben & Jerry's Half Baked 🍦—a classic combination that's hard to beat!

Amanda, thank you for your dedication to Putnam County, your compassionate care, and the kindness you bring to our patients, coworkers, and community every day. We're proud to have you as part of the PCEMS family! 💙🚑 #𝗙𝗲𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆

🚑 BIG NEWS FOR PUTNAM COUNTY EMS! 🚑

Please join us in congratulating (now) Paramedic Jeff Reeder on successfully completing paramedic school and officially becoming a Paramedic! 🎉

Jeff has been serving in EMS as an EMT since 2014 and returned to Putnam County EMS in 2022. Over more than a year, he has taken on the intense challenge of paramedic education while continuing to work, complete clinical requirements, study, and keep showing up for his patients and his community.

Becoming a paramedic is no small achievement. It takes long hours, sacrifice, discipline, and perseverance. Paramedic education is an extremely time-demanding process that includes classroom instruction, hands-on skills training, hospital clinical rotations, field internship time, testing, and countless hours of studying.

This is one of the most meaningful achievements we get to recognize. EMS depends on dedicated professionals at every level, and our EMTs are absolutely vital to the care we provide every day. When someone chooses to pursue paramedic education, they are taking on an incredibly demanding challenge that requires persistence, professional growth, and a deep commitment to patient care.

Jeff, we are proud of the effort you have poured into this journey and grateful for your continued service to Putnam County. We are excited to see you continue serving our community at the paramedic level.

👏 Help us congratulate Paramedic Jeff Reeder! 👏

🌟 We are back with Feature ’em Friday 🌟

This week, we’re proud to feature Jon Addler!

Jon has dedicated 15 years to EMS, including the last 4 years with Putnam County EMS. Before joining PCEMS, he spent 8 years with Putnam County Operation Life, meaning he has devoted nearly his entire EMS career to serving the residents of Putnam County.

What Jon enjoys most about EMS is being part of a team of passionate and highly skilled providers while having the opportunity to care for his neighbors during their time of need. He believes that every shift is an opportunity to make a difference through compassion, and that commitment is evident in the care he provides every day.

Jon’s dedication to service extends far beyond the ambulance. He has proudly served in the volunteer fire service for 24 years, is an active member of the Putnam County Fair Board, where he previously served as Board President, and was a member of Indiana Task Force 7, deploying in 2012 to assist communities devastated by Superstorm Sandy. Whether he’s responding to emergencies, supporting county traditions, or volunteering his time, serving others has always been a cornerstone of Jon’s life.

When he’s not at work, Jon enjoys spending time with his wife and three daughters (18, 6, and 10 months old). Their home is also shared with three cats—Patches, Mossy, and Binx. If there’s a Cubs game on, there’s a good chance you’ll find Jon cheering on his beloved Chicago Cubs. ⚾

When asked about his favorite ice cream, Jon couldn’t narrow it down. His answer? “D. All of the above.” 🍦 We think that’s a pretty solid choice!

Jon, thank you for your years of dedication to Putnam County, your commitment to public service, and the compassion and professionalism you bring to PCEMS every day. We are proud to have you as part of the PCEMS family and grateful for all you do for our community. 💙🚑

🚑🐾 Sometimes the best calls are the ones with four paws. 🐾🚑

When Putnam County EMS Shift Lieutenant Kylee Harrington heard the 911 dispatch for the Greencastle Fire Department to rescue a kitten trapped in a storm drain, she knew she had to help.

Anyone who knows Kylee knows she's an animal lover through and through, so she responded to lend a hand. Working alongside the incredible crew from Greencastle Fire Department, the tiny kitten was safely rescued from the drain and reunited with the family who had called for help.

The story doesn't end there...

The family wasn't sure what to name their newest furry family member. After learning about Putnam County EMS's newest ambulance, they chose the name Sophia—after our newest truck!

If you've ever wondered why that name sounded familiar, all of our ambulances are proudly named after the Golden Girls. (Take a close look at the custom taillight on our newest ambulance. 👀💛)

From storm drains to second chances, we're grateful to serve a community that cares so deeply for both its people and its animals.

Welcome to the world, Sophia! 🐱💙🧡

Great job to the crews from Greencastle Fire Department and Lt. Kylee Harrington for making sure this little rescue had a happy ending.
