At 6:13 p.m., Greencastle Fire Department A-Shift crews were dispatched to a structure fire on Illinois Street. Crews arrived to find smoke showing from the residence and immediately went to work. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire, limiting damage to the home.

The homeowners were safely out of the residence upon arrival, and no injuries were reported.

GFD was assisted on scene by the Greencastle Police Department and Putnam County EMS. We appreciate the coordination and support of Putnam County 911.

Today marked the final day at the firehouse for our Area 30 Interns, and they finished their last shift the way they’ve approached their entire internship—by getting after it and doing hands-on training.

Kade Winslow, Ethan Shannon, and Orion Bowser wrapped up their final day in the station with vehicle extrication training—hard, hands-on, and demanding work that reflects the reality of the job they’re preparing for.

All three have earned their Firefighter II certification during their time with us and continue to work toward their Fire Officer Strategies and Tactics certification. They’ve put in the effort, shown steady improvement, and taken every opportunity to learn and grow.

It’s been a pleasure having them at the department. Their work ethic and attitude have made a strong impression on everyone they’ve trained alongside.

Kade and Orion will be continuing on with us as reserve firefighters, and we look forward to working alongside them as they continue their journey in the fire service.

We thank all three interns for their dedication and wish them continued success as they move forward in their careers.

This evening, we were proud to officially swear in Dylan Romandine as the newest member of the Greencastle Fire Department. Mayor Dunbar administered the oath, and Dylan’s badge was pinned on by his wife with his daughters by his side.

Becoming a firefighter is more than an individual commitment, it’s a commitment shared by the family members who support the long hours, sacrifices, and dedication that come with the job. We are excited to welcome Dylan to the department and look forward to his future serving our community.

Darkness changes everything. Familiar buildings become unfamiliar, simple tasks become more difficult, and communication and teamwork become even more critical.

Many of the calls we respond to happen long after the sun goes down, which is why training in low-light environments is so important. The ability to stay calm, move with purpose, and operate effectively in limited visibility can make all the difference on the fireground.

C-Shift spent several hours last night sharpening those skills and training in the dark — preparing for the conditions firefighters often face when the tones drop in the middle of the night.

Happy Mother’s Day to all moms, but especially to those who raised firefighters.

The values of hard work, service, sacrifice, and compassion start at home, and we are thankful for all the moms who helped shape us.

A special shoutout to Firefighter Baldwin and Firefighter Navara, who balance being moms with the demands of the fire service . We are proud to serve alongside you both.

We hope all moms out there have a wonderful Mother’s Day!

A-Shift had the honor of displaying the Flag from Tower 7 at the start line of the Isaiah 117 House 5K this morning. It was a great community event with nearly 100 runners and walkers participating. Proud to be part of such a meaningful cause and to support the mission of Isaiah 117 House.

GFD B-Shift spent the morning with the TZ Fire Cubs as we wrapped up another successful year of this program!

This partnership has been a great collaboration between the Greencastle Fire Department and TZ, giving our firefighters the opportunity to serve as positive role models while building relationships with students in our community.

Programs like this create experiences and connections that go far beyond emergency calls, and we are proud to continue investing in the next generation.

Thank you to Vice Principal Covert for your work in making the Fire Cub program such a success. We’re looking forward to continuing and growing this partnership in the future.

Today we had the opportunity to celebrate our Area 30 Fire & Rescue seniors and interns: Kade Winslow, Ethan Shannon, Orion Bowser, and Teegan Tamm.

Programs like Area 30 are important to the future of the fire service. They give young men and women real exposure to the job, real responsibility, and a chance to learn what it means to serve their community before they ever step into a full-time role. GFD is proud to support a program that helps develop the next generation of firefighters and public servants.

This year, Orion Bowser, Kade Winslow, and Ethan Shannon interned at the Greencastle Fire Department, working alongside our crews and gaining hands-on experience in the firehouse. We’re also proud that Orion and Kade have already taken the next step and are now serving as reserve firefighters with GFD.

The future of the fire service depends on investing in the next generation, and these individuals have already shown the work ethic and commitment it takes to be part of it.

Congratulations, and we look forward to seeing what’s ahead for each of you.

Congratulations to Captain Jason Simonson and Engineer James Shaw on earning their State 1403 Live Fire Training Certification at Pittsboro Fire Department.

Today they finished the skills portion of the program, which included 31 burns over the last three days.

This certification strengthens our department’s ability to deliver high-level live fire training to our members.

Well done to both for putting in the work, embracing the grind, and representing our department with pride.
