"If water is the driving force of all nature, it didn't need to be so forceful as to break our water heater..."

But here we are.

A leaking water heater has officially reached the end of its life, and now we need to replace it. While hot water is something many of us take for granted, it's a necessity for the individuals and families staying in our shelter.

This wasn't an expense we planned for, so we're asking for a little help from our community. If you'd like to contribute toward a new water heater, we'd be incredibly grateful. Every dollar brings us closer to restoring reliable hot water for those who depend on us.

Thank you for helping us turn this unexpected setback into an opportunity for our community to come together.

Senior Homelessness...

It's not "๐™Ÿ๐™ช๐™จ๐™ฉ" a housing issue

It is our parents.
It is our grandparents.
It is the veterans who served our country.

The teachers who shaped our children.
The nurses who cared for our families.
The workers who built our communities.
The people who spent a lifetime contributing to society.

For decades, they did everything they were told to do.
They worked hard.
They paid their bills.
They raised families.
They saved what they could.
They planned for retirement.

Yet today, far too many older adults are one rent increase, one medical emergency, or one unexpected setback away from losing everything.

And for a growing number of seniors, that loss has already happened.

The fastest-growing group experiencing homelessness in America is older adults.

Think about that.

People who spent their lives building the world around us are now sleeping in cars, living in shelters, or wondering where they will spend the night.

No one should spend the final chapter of their life without the security of a home.
No one should have to choose between medication and rent.
No one should face aging alone on the streets.

This is not simply a housing crisis.
It is a human crisis.

Because a community is ultimately judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members.

Our seniors deserve more than survival.

They deserve dignity.
They deserve stability.
They deserve safety.
They deserve the peace of knowing they have a place to call home.

The good news is that homelessness among older adults is preventable.

With more affordable housing, supportive services, healthcare partnerships, and early intervention, we can help seniors remain housed before a crisis becomes homelessness.

Every day we wait, more older adults slip through the cracks.
Every day we delay, more seniors lose the security they spent a lifetime working to achieve.

Together, we can build communities where aging does not mean vulnerability and retirement does not mean homelessness.

Because homelessness should never be the retirement plan for the people who helped build the world we inherited.

These are not statistics.
They are our parents.
They are our grandparents.
They are our neighbors.
They are our responsibility.

Every time rent increases by $100, homelessness rises by an estimated 9%.

Thatโ€™s not politics. Thatโ€™s math.

When people canโ€™t afford housing, more of them end up in shelters, in cars, or on the streets. And without enough affordable housing available, there is nowhere for people experiencing homelessness to goโ€”even when they are ready to move forward.

The reality is simple: we cannot reduce homelessness without increasing access to housing people can actually afford.

Affordable housing creates movement throughout the entire system. It helps people leave homelessness faster, reduces time spent in shelters, and prevents vulnerable individuals and families from becoming homeless in the first place.

If we want fewer people living on the streets, we need more doors they can afford to walk through.

Thank you Putnam County Democratic Party - Indiana for the generous gift! These welcome kits will help put shelter residents at ease when they start their stay, and give children in the shelter something they can call their own.

The housing shortage is at the root of what we're seeing in communities across the country.

Right now:

๐Ÿก 1 in 2 renters are cost-burdened
๐Ÿก 1 in 4 homeowners are cost-burdened

Millions of families are spending so much on housing that there's little left for groceries, healthcare, childcare, transportation, or savings.

When there aren't enough homes to meet demand, housing costs rise. Families are forced to make impossible choices. More people become vulnerable to housing instability, and more fall into homelessness.

The good news is that the solution is within reach.

We need to make it easier to build more housingโ€”and more types of housingโ€”at a range of price points.

Apartments. Duplexes. Starter homes. Accessory dwelling units. Housing near jobs, schools, and transit.

Because people's housing needs change throughout their lives. Young adults, growing families, seniors, and workers all need different options.

When communities build enough housing, costs become more manageable, families gain stability, and fewer people are pushed into crisis.

Housing is more than shelter. It's the foundation for opportunity, security, and thriving communities.

More and more older adults are experiencing homelessness for the first timeโ€”often after a lifetime of hard work, raising families, and contributing to their communities. Many never imagined they would spend their later years wondering where they will sleep tonight.

For seniors, losing housing is especially dangerous. Exposure to the elements, poor nutrition, and untreated health conditions can quickly become life-threatening. Without a safe place to stay, physical and mental health often deteriorate rapidly, making it even harder to regain stability.

Your support can make an immediate difference. A gift to Beyond Homeless Incorporated provides more than a warm bed and a hot mealโ€”it offers safety, stability, and a path forward during a time of crisis. It gives older adults the chance to connect with services, address health concerns, and begin rebuilding their lives.

No one should face homelessness in their senior years. With your help, older adults can find refuge, regain hope, and move toward a future marked by dignity, security, and care.

Stable housing does more than provide shelterโ€”it creates the foundation for people to rebuild their lives.

When families don't know where they'll sleep tonight, life becomes about survival. Stress rises. Children struggle to focus in school. Physical and mental health suffer. Dreams and long-term goals are pushed aside because immediate needs demand all of their attention.

Stability changes everything.

A safe, affordable home creates consistency for children. It gives parents room to breathe. It allows seniors to age with dignity and security. Most importantly, it gives people the opportunity to focus on employment, education, healing, and growth instead of crisis management.

Housing impacts far more than housing.

It influences educational outcomes, workforce participation, physical and mental health, community safety, and generational opportunity.

That's why this work matters.

Behind every shelter, housing program, waiting list, inspection, recertification, and policy is a person striving to build a better future for themselves and their family.

Too often, affordable housing is viewed as an expense.

In reality, stable housing is an investment in people. And when people are given stability, dignity, and opportunity, entire communities become stronger.

Housing work has never been about rent, paperwork, or buildings.

It has always been about people.

Because stable, affordable housing isโ€”and always will beโ€”about people.
