Ever wonder how much water comes on a pallet? Thanks to our neighbors at Tipmont I now know! (84 cases!)

Tipmont has joined our mutual aid efforts by providing a pallet of water to our water cooler project this week!

MoCo Mutual Aid places coolers around Montgomery County, where they leave water and other necessities for anyone who needs them. Over a thousand bottles are distributed a year through these coolers!

I spent three hot but wonderful days at the Montgomery County Fair this week.

I had originally planned to sit behind a table in a tent, but I quickly abandoned that idea. Instead, I went to as many events as I could, introduced myself as a candidate, and asked people whether I could ask them a few questions.

Almost everyone said yes. People generously shared the challenges they are facing and their ideas about what could make farming—and life in rural Indiana—more sustainable.

Special thanks to fair organizers Melissa and Carrie, who were unfailingly helpful; to Nevaeh and Kathy for their insights about healthcare, the loss of primary care physicians, and reductions in hospital services, especially for pregnant women; to Vivian for talking with me about the loss of farmland to housing developments; and to Darren for explaining the difficulties young people face in finding affordable housing. To all the amazing and delightful youngsters there, thank you for sharing your joy and displaying your talents.

I came away with a much deeper appreciation for both the challenges facing Montgomery County and the wisdom and experience of the people who live there. I am grateful to everyone who took the time to talk with me.

Note: As usual, I forgot to take photos. This one is from the fair page.

Theres going to be free food, games, and more!

As a member of the Greater Lafayette Steering Committee on Homelessness (Beyond the Bridge), I express my firm opposition to the criminalization of homelessness enacted by the supermajority in the Indiana State Legislature. Photo is with Don Sawyer, the director and producer of BEYOND THE BRIDGE: A Solution To Homelessness. Apologies for the graininess.
