Off-Road Rescue Trailer

Stationed at Porter Corners, the Off-Road Rescue Trailer is a specialized resource designed to support emergency operations in remote and difficult-to-access areas. The trailer carries an ARGO 8-wheel amphibious rescue vehicle, an ATV, a rescue sled for winter operations, and a utility trailer used to transport the rescue sled during non-winter months.

The unit is also equipped with a variety of search and rescue equipment to support wilderness, off-road, and adverse weather incidents. The ARGO is outfitted with a 100-gallon water tank and pump, allowing for initial fire suppression and water supply in areas inaccessible to traditional apparatus.

For winter operations, the ARGO can be fitted with tracks that mount over the wheels, providing enhanced mobility in deep snow and challenging terrain. As an amphibious vehicle, the ARGO is also capable of operating in water, making it a versatile asset for a wide range of rescue and emergency response situations.

Earlier today, the Greenfield Fire District was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Sand Hill Road after receiving two separate reports of smoke coming from the second floor of a multi-family residence.

Upon arrival, the first chief confirmed a working fire and requested a second alarm be transmitted. The first-arriving engine company quickly deployed and was able to contain the fire to the room of origin, preventing further extension throughout the home.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

We would also like to highlight an important fire safety lesson from this incident. The bedroom door to the room where the fire originated was closed, which significantly limited the spread of heat, smoke, and fire to the remainder of the residence. This simple action helped protect both lives and property.

Today’s incident serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of the “Close Before You Doze” campaign. Closing bedroom doors before going to sleep can buy valuable time during a fire and greatly improve survivability.

Last night, the Greenfield Fire District was requested to provide a F.A.S.T. (Firefighter Assist and Search Team) response to the scene of a working structure fire in South Glens Falls Fire Company Inc. district. Shortly after the arrival of the South Chief, responding Greenfield units were reassigned from F.A.S.T. operations to provide additional structural firefighting manpower.

Greenfield personnel operated on scene for approximately 2.5 hours, assisting with fire suppression and supporting overall incident operations. We are proud to work alongside our neighboring departments and remain committed to providing mutual aid whenever called upon.

Today, we honor the heroes who gave their lives in service to our nation. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day is a time to remember the sacrifices made by the men and women of our armed forces who fought to protect our freedoms. Their bravery and selflessness will never be forgotten.

From all of us at the fire department, we thank those who served and especially remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Please have a safe Memorial Day.
