The Hancock County Sheriff's Department has 40 sworn Deputies, 34 civilian employees, and 28 Reserve Deputies broke down into several divisions. The Jail Division, Patrol Division, Administrative Division, Operations Division, Reserve Division, and Investigations Division.

UPDATE: Judy Hart has been found safe! Thank you to everyone that has volunteered to help in the search.

Silver Alert issued for Judy Hart, missing from Hancock County Indiana.

Judy Hart age 83, was last seen by her son on the morning of October 3, 2026 at Heartland Resort, Campground and RV park located at 1613 W. 300 N, Greenfield, Indiana. She was last seen wearing a purple long sleeve shirt and blue fleece pants. Judy is approximately 5'3, 120 pounds. Judy is believed to be in need of medical services.

K9 search, drones and foot searches have been performed and are continuing to take place.

People are leaving voicemails requesting a call back, saying that they are with the Hancock County Sheriff's Department and leaving a phone number that is not HCSD and are not leaving a name.

Our staff members, will leave their name and most often the nature of their call. If you receive a phone call from a Hancock County Sheriff's Department Deputy or staff member that does not give you a name and you do not have an ongoing case, you may call our Administrative office at 317-477-1147 to inquire of the legitimacy of that phone call. HCSD staff will be able to research and see if you were in fact contacted by a member of HCSD and get you in touch with that person.

Reminder to NEVER give out personal or financial information over the phone to persons requesting such information if you cannot verify their identity and purpose.

Please join us in welcoming our 3 newest deputies!

Deputies Joseph Ratliff, Garrett Henderson and Luke Yonts were sworn in this week by Sheriff Brad Burkhart.

They have been training with our training officer and getting some experience working in the jail. They will begin Field Training with Road Deputies then attend Indiana Law Enforcement Academy. Upon graduation from ILEA, these deputies will join the Road Division patrolling Hancock County.

Congratulations on your appointment to the Road Division and good luck with your continued training.
