The Hancock County Flat 50 Bicycle ride is this Saturday, August 29th, 2026 beginning at 8:00 AM.

The ride begins in downtown Greenfield and travels east, northeast before turning south through Charlottesville, then west and back to Greenfield. The two routes include a 25-mile and a 50-mile ride.

⭐👮🚓Hancock County is a little safer today. 🚓👮⭐

Our three newest Merit Deputies have completed several hundred hours of practical field training and experience across all three shifts, plus more than 600 hours of training over 16 weeks at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Deputies Beaudry, Robinson, and Vibbert will be out serving and protecting the great citizens living in, working in, and visiting Hancock County.

We appreciate their families and friends making sacrifices over the last several months so these three could focus on becoming the best deputies possible!

HANCOCK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES
SINGLE-VEHICLE FATAL CRASH

A man was killed when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.

Around 2:40 PM on August 19, 2026, members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office were called to the intersection of County Roads 600 North and 350 West for a report of a single-vehicle crash, possibly inverted, and on fire. The area is just northeast of the Indianapolis Regional Airport in Hancock County.

Deputies arrived on scene and located a 2001 Ford Crown Victoria severely damaged and occupied by one adult male. The first deputies at the scene could not get a response from the male trapped inside the vehicle and saw no signs of life. Deputies requested the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.T.) to respond.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was identified as Mr. Antoine Stowers, 19, from Indianapolis. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Fire and EMS at the scene took great care, extricating Mr. Stowers from the vehicle. Deputies were able to confirm the victim’s identity and notify his family.

Evidence at the scene indicated that the Crown Victoria was traveling westbound on 600 North, likely at a high rate of speed, when it left the roadway, striking a large tree. The driver was wearing a seatbelt. Currently drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. The investigation is ongoing.

The roadway was closed for about 3 hours while the multi-agency Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team investigated. The Hancock County Coroner’s Office, Hancock County 911 Center, Buck Creek Township Fire Department, and Hancock County Highway Department also assisted in this incident.

We are super proud of our deputies that are currently attending training at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.

Our Deputies Beaudry, Robinson and Vibbert along with the entire basic class 239 at ILEA participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run at ILEA for Special Olympics Indiana on August 4, 2026.

This class was the largest class to participate and raised the most money from previous classes.

Only 2 weeks left until graduation!

Hancock County Sheriff’s Department is asking for your assistance with any information regarding Missing/Runaway juvenile Taylor Palmer.

She is a 17 yr old white female approximately 5’6, 170lbs.

She was last seen in Allen County wearing a black hoodie and red pajama pants.

She has no familial connections in Allen County and may have made her way to Hancock County to family or friends.

Fatal Shooting in Hancock County, No Threat to the Public July 21, 2026

At approximately 4:05 PM on July 21, 2026, Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of 7600 West County Road 350 North, near the Hancock/Marion County line, for the report of a person shot inside a vehicle. The Hancock County 911 Center informed deputies an on-duty IMPD officer happened to be nearby, was flagged down, and on-scene had a male suspect in custody.

Deputies arrived on scene and located two vehicles stopped in the area. Deputies advised a single, male victim suffered an apparent gunshot wounds and was deceased. The victim was in one of the vehicles. The suspected shooter was with the second vehicle. Detectives and Evidence Technicians from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office were called the scene.

The suspected shooter is an adult male. He was transferred to the custody of Hancock County Deputies and taken to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office for questioning. An adult female witness was also present in the suspect’s vehicle and was transported to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.

At this time the victim’s identity has not been confirmed so a name cannot be released.

After initial investigation of available evidence, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office can assure the public that there is no danger to them, and no on-going threat. This appears to be an isolated incident between two individuals. Early reports indicate the incident may have originated from a dispute between the suspect and victim. It is unknown if they were familiar with each other prior to the incident. At this time the identity of the shooter is not being released. An update will be released when more details are available.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office will work with the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office as the investigation continues. We would like to thank all nearby agencies that helped cover other calls for service during the initial incident.
