The Buck Creek Township Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates to fulfill the role of Assistant Chief of Department. This position is primarily responsible for operational oversight, logistics management, and administrative processes necessary to ensure fluid operation of the organization.

Buck Creek Township Fire Department is a rapidly growing agency located in west central Hancock County, immediately adjacent to the east side of Indianapolis and Marion County. Responding from two firehouses, 36 career members combined with more than two dozen part-time staff and four administrators protect 36 square miles of residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

The Assistant Chief is a full-time position requiring a dedicated and progressive-minded individual willing to invest and grow with the agency. An applicant for this position can expect the following compensation:
🔴2026 - $89,016
🔴2027 - $92,875 (adjustments for experience)
🔴$1/year health, dental, & vision insurance
🔴HSA/HRA
🔴PERF or deferred compensation retirement
🔴Take home vehicle

Candidates must be well versed and meet or be willing to meet the following qualifications within twelve (12) months of appointment:
📄Certifications
-Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) Certified Fire Officer II
-FBOS Certified Fire Investigator
-Indiana Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
-NIMS / ICS Certifications: 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800
📞Communication: Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively in written and spoken English
📢Public Speaking: Proven ability to represent the Department publicly and present the mission, goals, and strategic direction to staff, civic leaders, and public officials
💻Technical Skills: Proficiency with computers, including Word processing, Excel management, document storage, and presentation software applications

Today, crews took the opportunity to train alongside Lifeline crews, focusing on setting up landing zones and hot-loading patients into the helicopter.

These trainings are crucial for our members to operate seamlessly during aircraft operations, ensuring the safety of our crews and giving patients the best chance of survival.

We want to extend our thanks to IU Health LifeLine for providing this valuable training session.

A-shift crews recently spent time training on water supply and large water volume usage. Utilizing the aerial device on the ladder, deluge gun on the engine, and a blitz attack line, crews were able to simulate a large incident requiring high gallons per minute of water by pushing a pressurized water source to its limit.

Best of luck to Indiana Task Force One as they are staged down south awaiting Hurricane Isaias to make landfall. Shawn Remick, who works with us as a paramedic, is on TF-1 assisting with the response and later recovery efforts. We are wishing for all members to have a safe trip and a speedy return.
