Thank you to all who donated the last several weeks to the flood relief efforts in east central Indiana. At this time, we are ‼️NO LONGER‼️ accepting donations at our firehouses. The outpouring of support from the Hancock County community has been humbling and we look forward to spearheading future efforts to help those in their time of need.

It has been a busy few weeks for our joint recruit class with Greenfield Fire Territory. Over the last six weeks, 11 recruits have spent countless hours learning fire behavior, various fire ground functions, advanced vehicle extrication techniques, emergency medical care, and the opportunity for plenty of repetitions on many of these skills.

With two weeks to go, class 26-01 will be focused on putting everything together, honing in fine techniques, and be ready to hit the streets in early September.

We have enjoyed seeing the progress of these eleven recruits. With two weeks to go before graduation, there is still plenty to learn. The success of this class would not have been possible without partnerships from local organizations and instructors from many of our surrounding fire departments.

crews, along with the rest of Hancock County, have been busy responding to recent inclement weather and fires. Notably, on August 8th, 2026, E472, L471, M472, BC407, E445, E442, L445, BC404, L421, BC402, and IFD E41 responded to a residential fire in Valley Brook Village off of N Manchester Drive.

Upon arrival, BCTFD crews and mutual aid companies encountered fire in the attic space of the structure. Crews quickly exposed and extinguished the fire, and removed smoke from the residence. Fortunately, no occupants were harmed, though they have been displaced from their home.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to our mutual aid companies for their assistance and support during this incident.

With all the flooding in east central Indiana resources have been tapped hard.
Last night we were asked to provide stand by in Wayne County as more rain moved into the area.
Greenfield Fire Territory and Buck Creek Twp Fire were able to send crews for about 12 hours last night to assist. Having trained skilled rescuers is a blessing and we are proud to help when we can. You never know when we may be in the next multiple day incident and need the help in return.

Mt. Vernon Schools start tomorrow morning on another year of academic adventure!
Keep our kids SAFE by driving slower around schools, watching for bus stops, and keeping an eye out for kids in your neighborhoods.

Today we’re extending a big congratulations to Makena Baker on passing her National Registry Paramedic exam.
