The Arc of Hancock County To promote & protect the human rights of people with intellectual & developmental disabilities

05/28/2026

After much reflection, it’s time for me to say goodbye. Serving this community and working alongside individuals with disabilities has been one of the greatest honors of my life. The relationships, stories, resilience, and joy I’ve experienced will stay with me forever. I am deeply grateful for every family, advocate, and individual who allowed me to be part of their journey. Grateful for the partnerships made as well…priceless.

Thank you for trusting me, supporting me, and teaching me about Hancock County along the way.

Respectfully,
Joanne Tedesco (former Executive Director)

What happens when the services someone depends on suddenly change? In a recent article from The Statehouse File, Beth Crain shares how changes to her caregiving services led her to explore Indiana’s self-directed care option. This model allows individuals with disabilities to have more control over who provides their support and how those services are managed.

Stories like Beth’s are exactly why advocacy matters. We believe that when individuals with disabilities can foster confidence and have access to the tools and supports to speak up about what they need and how decisions affect their lives, everyone benefits.

As a two-time participant in The Arc of Indiana’s Advocacy Leadership Network (ALN), once as an Advocacy Fellow and once as a Senior Advocacy Consultant, we are particularly proud to see Beth use her voice to create understanding and help move important conversations forward.

By opening up and sharing her lived experience, Beth is demonstrating how to put advocacy and leadership skills to use. Not only advocating for herself, but also helping others better understand the real-life impact of disability services, caregiving, and choice here in Indiana.
