The Franklin County Solid Waste Management District is comprised of 21 member towns in western Massachusetts. The District assists member towns, residents and schools with recycling, hazardous waste disposal, composting, trash disposal, and other waste-related issues. Member towns of the District are:
Bernardston, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Conway, Deerfield, Erving, Gill, Hawley, Heath, Lever

Franklin County residents can get their documents shredded in Sunderland and then their household items repaired at Franklin County Tech School from 10 am - 1 pm! Join us on Saturday, May 30th from 9-11am at our Sunderland branch for a free document shredding, courtesy of our friends at Valley Green Shredding, LLC!

Please note, the event is for household documents, not intended for businesses. Paper only. Limit of 4 grocery bags or 2 boxes per vehicle.

We're also collecting optional monetary donations to support Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.

SAVE THE DATES, and save your broken items! We're hosting FOUR FREE Regional Repair/Fix-It Days this summer! These events are free and open to all Franklin County residents.

1. Saturday, May 30th, 10 am – 1 pm: (Note the later start time than previously reported.) The Franklin County Solid Waste District and the Franklin County Tech School are hosting the 2nd annual Franklin County Regional Repair Event at the Tech School, 82 Industrial Blvd, Turners Falls.

Students, instructors, and local fixers will be on hand. Every effort will be made to repair your item(s). Antiques and heirlooms cannot be fixed at this event. Check out the event flyer in this post for more information.

2. Saturday, June 13th, 11-2: West County Fix-it Day at the Colrain Grammar Elementary School, 22 Jacksonville Rd. This event is open to all Franklin County residents. For more information, email Nancy at [email protected], Jan at [email protected] or call the Solid Waste District at 413-772-2438.

3. Saturday, June 27th, 11-2: South County fix-it/repair event at the Conway Grammar School. Save the date! More details will be posted soon.

4. Saturday, August 15th: Eastern Franklin County fix-it/repair event at Mahar Regional High School in Orange. Save the date! More details will be posted soon.

Please note: We may need to limit the number of repairs per participant based on the number of participants waiting for a repair slot. Fixers will do their best to repair items. Some items may not be fixable. Fixers and organizers will not be responsible for any damages.
