18-Year-Old Suffers Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound to the Buttocks

On Thursday morning, Greenfield officers responded to the 1000 block of Palm Avenue after receiving a report of a possible domestic disturbance involving a fi***rm.

Family advised that an 18-year-old male had reportedly been in possession of a fi***rm, and had left the residence with it.

Greenfield officers, with assistance from the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and Soledad Police Department, searched the surrounding area but were initially unable to locate the male.

During the investigation, officers determined there was no domestic dispute. Family members reported being awakened by the sound of a gunshot inside the residence, and the 18-year-old running out. Officers located evidence of a shooting inside the home.

Shortly after, officers received a medical aid call for the 18-year-old, who was in the 300 block of Parkside Court. Officers responded and safely contacted him.

The 18-year-old was suffering from a single gunshot wound to his buttocks.

The investigation revealed that shooting was self-inflicted.

The 18-year-old male was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation will be forwarded to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office with a recommendation for criminal charges.

Un joven de 18 años sufre una herida de bala autoinfligida en los glúteos

El jueves por la mañana, agentes del Departamento de Policía de Greenfield respondieron al bloque 1000 de Palm Avenue tras recibir un reporte de un posible disturbio doméstico que involucraba un arma de fuego.

La familia informó que un hombre de 18 años presuntamente estaba en posesión de un arma de fuego y que había salido de la residencia con ella.

PRESS RELEASE: Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced today that Judge Carrie M. Panetta sentenced Omar Onofre, age 22 of Greenfield, to four years in state prison for three felony counts of residential burglary and one misdemeanor count of criminal invasion of privacy. The burglary convictions constitute three “strikes” under California’s Three Strikes Law.

Between March 3, 2026, and March 12, 2026, Onofre committed a series of residential burglaries in the City of Greenfield by entering multiple residences during the night and early morning hours. Onofre entered the residences with the intent to steal personal property, including wallets and cellphones. Through the cooperation of witnesses and victims, who provided law enforcement with descriptions of the suspect, investigators were able to identify Onofre as the suspect in the burglaries. Onofre was subsequently arrested and confessed to Greenfield Police detectives that he had committed the burglaries. During the investigation, law enforcement also located several items that had been reported stolen from the victims at Onofre’s residence.

UPDATE: Additional Arrests Made in August 21 Violent Assault Investigation

The Greenfield Police Department has made two additional arrests in connection with the violent group assault that occurred on August 21, 2026, in the 200 block of Bianco Way.

The victim suffered serious head injuries during the attack. Video evidence showed the victim being assaulted by multiple individuals and struck in the head multiple times with a fi***rm.

On the night of the incident, 18-year-old Arturo Robles Gonzalez of Salinas was identified as a suspect and arrested.

Since then, Greenfield Detectives have continued investigating the attack. With assistance from the Monterey County Probation Department, Salinas Police Department, and Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, detectives identified 18-year-old Jeremiah Joel Rodriguez of Salinas and a 16-year-old juvenile from Salinas as additional suspects.

This past week, detectives served residential search warrants in the 700 block of Garner Way and the 18000 block of Lenny Street in Salinas and recovered evidence related to the investigation. The fi***rm used during the assault has not been recovered and remains outstanding.

Detectives booked Rodriguez into the Monterey County Jail, and the juvenile into Monterey County Juvenile Hall. Charges related to this investigation include attempted murder, assault with a semiautomatic fi***rm, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, robbery, conspiracy, and fi***rm and gang enhancements. Additional charges have also been requested against Gonzalez.

A major part of this investigation was made possible by members of our community who responded to our request for assistance and uploaded videos through the Greenfield Police Department’s Axon Community Portal. Those videos provided detectives with multiple views of the attack and were instrumental in identifying those involved.

This investigation is not over. Detectives continue to review video, examine evidence, interview witnesses, and work to identify everyone responsible. We anticipate making additional arrests.

We thank the community members who came forward and our law enforcement partners who assisted with this investigation.

This incident is also a reminder of the serious dangers associated with unsupervised parties involving minors and young adults. Underage drinking, drug use, and large unsupervised gatherings can quickly escalate into violence with life-changing consequences.

Violence has no place in Greenfield. We will continue working with our community and law enforcement partners to identify those responsible for violent crime and hold them accountable.

Arrest Made Following Violent Assault at Underage House Party

On August 21, 2026, at approximately 10:09 p.m., Greenfield Police officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Bianco Way for a report of a possible gunshot. The call prompted a multi-agency response.

Although officers initially could not locate the reported victim, the investigation revealed that a house party for a 19-year-old Greenfield woman had taken place in the area. The party was advertised on social media, including Snapchat, and attendees ranged in age from 15 to 20. Investigators also determined that underage drinking had occurred.

Officers later obtained video showing multiple individuals repeatedly kicking and stomping an unconscious male in the head and torso while he was lying in the roadway. Investigators also believe the victim was robbed during the assault.

During the initial response, officers contacted one of the individuals captured in the video. He was identified as Arturo Robles Gonzalez, 18, of Salinas.

Gonzalez was arrested and booked into the Monterey County Jail on charges of:

• Attempted Murder – 664/187 PC
• Robbery – 211 PC

Approximately 30 minutes after the original call, Soledad Police officers responded to a medical emergency involving an 18-year-old Chualar resident suffering from serious head injuries.

Investigators determined he was the victim of the assault on Bianco Way. He was transported to a local trauma center for treatment.

Greenfield Police officers and detectives are continuing the investigation.

Investigators believe additional individuals participated in the assault and are actively working to identify them through residential and City camera footage, witness statements, and other investigative leads.

We also know that bystanders recorded the incident on their cellphones. Those videos may provide critical evidence and help investigators identify additional individuals involved.

Investigators are also examining the circumstances surrounding the house party, including the involvement of the responsible adults and property owners, as well as the underage drinking that occurred.

This incident is an important reminder for parents and guardians to know where their children are, who they are with, and what activities they are attending, particularly when parties are organized and shared through social media.

California law prohibits furnishing alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 and, in certain circumstances, knowingly allowing minors to consume alcohol. A house party involving underage drinking can have serious consequences for those who provide alcohol or knowingly permit the activity.

The Greenfield Police Department would like to thank the Soledad Police Department, King City Police Department, Salinas Police Department, Seaside Police Department’s K9 Unit, and Monterey County Sheriff's Office for their assistance.

Arresto Realizado Tras Violenta Agresión en una Fiesta con Jóvenes Menores de Edad
