E-Bikes: A quick and simple guide to legality for public road use-

Is it pedal assist, have no more than 750 watts, and does the pedal assist shut off at 28mph? If so, it's considered a bicycle! (There are 3 categories of e-bikes, read through NH RSA 259:27-a for more info)

Is it only propelled by a motor, have over 750 watts of power, or does pedal assist continue over 28 miles per hour? If so, its considered an OHRV or a motorcycle!

Please remember that bicycles, OHRVs, and motorcycles are governed very differently. You don't need to register your bicycle or be licensed to ride it on a public roadway. Motorcycles and OHRV's are subject to much more regulation. Know your applicable laws before heading out and be safe out there!

Good news!

The Greenfield Police Department has started an aviation unit! We've traded six torn office chairs and a set of slightly used snow tires to the Hillsboro NH Police Department for their MD 500E helicopter. We thought the asking price of $412,026 was a little high, but with a little haggling, they've graciously accepted our straight trade offer. We've already done some quick customization in order to get this bird into service as quick as possible.

We also found some leftover Dunkin's on the floorboards!

Happy St. Paddy's Day! For those of you out and about tonight celebrating, great craic to you! Don't forget to be responsible about it, though. If you're out sampling the black stuff or enjoying the water of life, make smart decisions.

DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE.

Seriously. There have been years and years of targeted ads, news, social media campains, and so on to educate everyone about the dangers of drunk driving. It's 2026 now. Use Uber or Lyft. Use the cell phone you're reading this on to call or text someone to give you a ride.

So have fun out there! But be smart about what happens afterwards. We'll be out looking for those who make the poor decisions.

Scams and the scammers that perpetrate them are awful. Nothing frustrates us more than seeing someone lose any amount of their hard earned savings to these people. In most cases, once your funds are out of your hands, it's almost impossible to get it back. All of the scams we've been able to trace originate in other countries- and once that trail leads overseas, it gets very hard to follow. Funds can get transferred into goods and shipped to drop points and pilfered by unknown people, or they can be routed through other victims, only to be deposited into accounts that belong to yet more victims before being siphoned off by untraceable means.

They're good at what they do. And that's a shame.

BE CAREFUL.

Some helpful tips and advice:

* ALWAYS VERIFY. Nothing is ever such an emergency requiring payment that you can't take a few moments to verify that the issue is legitimate. Hang up and contact the person or agency/business by a known contact number if you are unsure.

* NEVER PAY IN GIFT CARDS. Legitimate agencies and businesses will never ask for payment in the form of gift cards, nor will they direct you to go purchase pre-paid cards.

* WATCH WHERE YOU CLICK. Phishing scams try to get you to click or open malicious links to gain your sensitive information. If prompted to re-enter your username and password (social media, banking, etc.) after clicking a link, that could very well be an attempt to steal your credentials.

*CHECK PRIVACY SETTINGS. Don't post sensitive information to public social media accounts. Scammers can use this information along with all the other readily available information on Google and sound very knowledgeable about your affairs.

There are all sorts and variations of scams out there and new ones starting up every day. Protect yourself and your finances. If you have questions about a potential issue, talk it over with a close friend, family member, or call us!

Most people are good. Scammers are in a different category.

***TLDR; Scams are bad, be careful with your information, no gift cards as payment, verify legitimacy***

Our DPW look happy in this photo because it was warm and sunny when this was taken... In just a couple hours, these hardworking gentleman, along with the rest of our DPW and countless others will once again be hitting the roads with the plows down.

This a reminder to keep your cars from being parked on the roads and in public parking spaces overnight. Help them out by letting them clear what they need to as quickly as possible.
..We haven't seen them smile since November😬

2/13/26 Vehicle Inspection Update:

No inspections are needed. Again.

The State provided information this afternoon that the inspection program has been suspended. Inspection stations are no longer authorized to issue inspection stickers and you are no longer required to obtain an inspection sticker for your vehicle.

This is still subject to change. We understand this is a bit frustrating- we get our cars inspected too.
