In April 1888, the Greenfield Vedette newspaper noted that the building was near completion and was “to be finer and neater structure than they had presumed.” Four hundred opera chairs were purchased from Chicago for $2.50 each and arrived in March 1888.
Dedication night came in August 9, 1888 for which tickets sold for 10-25 cents.
The main Opera House has the seating capacity of 200 folks. The floors are the original hard wood floors throughout and the "Old Pot Belly Stove" still stands! All restrooms are new and the main opera room has up to date air conditioning for those warm summer days.
Behind the stage, there are hundreds of signatures etched into the walls by past actors, musicians and visitors dating back to 1896. This tradition will still be available on an area in the main hallway for any and all performers on the Opera stage.
