Today on Capitol Hill, I had the opportunity to engage directly with Tim Moore Member of Congress 14th District of NC alongside colleagues and affiliates of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina and iPAC. These conversations centered on critical legislative priorities that directly impact our clients, our agencies, and the broader insurance marketplace.

We discussed meaningful legal reform, including the Tackling Predatory Litigation Funding Act (H.R. 3512 / S. 1821), which aims to curb abusive litigation practices that continue to drive up insurance costs and erode the integrity of our legal system. The rapid rise of third-party litigation funding (TPLF) has created tax imbalances, reduced transparency, and contributed to excessive litigation—costs that ultimately fall on policyholders. In addition, we advocated for the Protecting Our Courts from Foreign Manipulation Act (H.R. 2675 / S. 3180), reinforcing the need for disclosure of litigation funding and protecting U.S. courts from foreign exploitation.

Disaster mitigation was another major focus. The Disaster Mitigation and Tax Parity Act of 2025 (H.R. 1849 / S. 336) is essential to removing tax barriers that discourage homeowners from investing in resilience. Equally important is advancing the Fixing Emergency Management for Americans Act (H.R. 4669) to strengthen federal disaster response.

Flood insurance stability remains a pressing issue. We emphasized the need for long-term reauthorization and modernization of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) ahead of its September 30 expiration. Avoiding repeated short-term extensions is critical to ensuring stability in the marketplace and protecting homeowners in high-risk areas. We also highlighted the importance of the Continuous Coverage for Flood Insurance Act (H.R. 6620), which supports a more flexible and consumer-friendly private flood insurance market.

On healthcare, we urged Congress to protect employer-sponsored coverage, expand access to telehealth, and advance price transparency. The Patients Deserve Price Transparency Act (H.R. 5582 / S. 2355) is a key step toward empowering consumers and employers with clear, standardized pricing information to drive competition and lower costs.

After 20 years in this industry, being licensed and able to speak on behalf of insurance consumers across North Carolina is something I do not take lightly. It is a true honor to advocate for legislation that directly impacts the financial security and well-being of the families and businesses we serve. Opportunities like this reinforce the importance of building strong relationships—not only with our clients back home, but also with the policymakers shaping the future of our industry.

The 2026 Big “I” Legislative Conference has been nothing short of exceptional. We are building relationships, participating in impactful workshops, learning from industry leaders, and engaging with decision-makers who are positioned to influence meaningful change. This is a true meeting of the minds—focused on expanding opportunities, strengthening our profession, and ultimately delivering better outcomes for the American people.

What makes this work so powerful is that we can create real impact without holding public office—by working directly with those elected to serve, ensuring that laws and protections reflect the best interests of our communities, our state, and our country.

I look forward to continuing this work and seeing many of these initiatives move forward for the benefit of our constituents.

My favorite movie. Pursuit of Happyness

A lot of you know this picture and where I’m at and for the ones who don’t . . . this was the bathroom that my son and I slept in when we were homeless. I visit this place once every ten years, it helps me to appreciate where I am today. What you’ll notice is, I am standing in the doorway . . . I NEVER close the door. I am afraid if I do, all the ghosts and pain will come out. Will Smith said the same exact thing.

One of the most important lessons in life, I learned in this bathroom. The question was “How did I get here?” The answer was “I drove here.” The moral is, that you can’t change something until you own it. If I drove here I could drive outta here. Let’s roll.
