A little after 0600 this morning, GC 911 dispatched GCFR C-Shift crews including E12, E11, E9, E13, Batt1, T2, T9, Sta2, Sta4, and GCEMS M12 responded to a commercial structure fire in Union Point.

E12 arrived on scene to find fire showing from the front of the building with heavy smoke throughout the structure. E12 quickly completed a 360 size-up, established Command, forced entry, and initiated an aggressive interior fire attack to bring the fire under control.

Additional arriving units supported operations including primary searches, overhaul, utility control, ventilation, salvage, and water supply operations. Due to the rapid response and coordinated teamwork by all personnel on scene, damage to the structure was limited.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Great work by all involved and another example of teamwork, training, and dedication to protecting our community.

As we close out the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, we pause to honor the 204 firefighters who gave their lives in 2025, including Master Firefighter Preston Fant from DeKalb County Fire Rescue.

This weekend is a powerful reminder of the sacrifice behind the badge and the families and departments who carry that legacy forward every single day.

We’ll be sharing a few photos from this year, along with some from last year as we honored Battalion Chief Chris Eddy, a brother we continue to miss SO deeply.

Your impact, your leadership, and your example remain with us.

“Just Do It Right.” 🔥🤙🏼

🤙🏼 Happy Heavenly Birthday, Chief. We can just picture you up there celebrating big, probably keeping everyone laughing like always. There’s comfort in knowing you’re at peace… but man, we miss you more than words can ever say.

It’s been 19 months, and not a single day goes by that you aren’t on our minds or in our conversations. Your presence is still felt in so many little ways, and your impact on all of us will never fade.

Happy Heavenly Birthday, BC Eddy. We’ll keep carrying your memory with us in everything we do. Until we meet again, keep watching over us. 😇🤙🏼❤️‍🩹

Earlier today, Greene County Fire Rescue crews responded to two working house fires on the lake, demonstrating outstanding teamwork and rapid response.

B-Shift units E11, E12, E9, T11, T9, and Batt1, along with Greensboro E1 and T1, Greshamville Fire, GCEMS M11 and EMS1, handled the first incident. Crews arrived to find a garage fire, possibly caused by a lithium-ion battery. Quick action allowed crews to safely mitigate the hazardous materials concern, contain the fire, and ventilate the structure to prevent further damage.

Within an hour, C-Shift units E10, E9, E13, E11, T9, T11, P9, and Batt1, along with Greensboro E1, Walker Church E8 and T8, Putnam County T33 and Marine, and GCEMS M13 and EMS1, responded to a second call involving a lightning strike. Upon arrival, crews encountered fire extending through the first, second, and attic spaces. Through rapid water application and an aggressive interior attack, crews were able to stop the fire and save the structure.

There were no injuries reported at either incident.

Outstanding work by all agencies involved. Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to protecting our community.

Tonight begins the week as we Light the Night Red in honor of Battalion Chief Chris Eddy, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty on 9/4/2024.

We also stand in remembrance of the 204 fallen firefighters who will be honored this weekend in Emmitsburg. Their courage, dedication, and selfless service will never be forgotten.

Please join us in lighting your homes, stations, and communities red as we pay tribute to these heroes and support the families they left behind. ❤️ #1106
