Last week, GCFR participated in two full days of Active Shooter Response training alongside Greensboro PD, GCSO, GCEMS, and Greensboro Fire. Crews worked through classroom instruction and realistic scenarios designed to strengthen interagency coordination, communication, and response capabilities during critical incidents.

Training together ensures that all public safety agencies can work seamlessly when seconds matter most. We appreciate the commitment of everyone involved and the opportunity to enhance our preparedness to better serve and protect the citizens of Greene County.

GCFR and Greensboro Fire were happy to assist Stacey McClendon and the Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club with Water Day. Our crews enjoyed spending time with the kids, helping them cool off, and being part of a fun day filled with smiles and laughter. Thank you to the Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club for inviting us to participate in this great community event.

Please keep our brothers and sisters at Rockdale in your thoughts and prayers as they begin to navigate the unimaginable loss of one of their own in the line of duty.

Please also lift up the firefighter’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. The days ahead will be hard, and the months and years to come will bring challenges that many cannot fully understand.

May they find strength, comfort, and peace in the support of their community and the fire service family that stands beside them. We mourn with them, pray for them, and honor the sacrifice that has been made. 💔

This is a huge step forward for Greene County Fire Rescue and the public safety community across our nation. After the tragic loss of Battalion Chief Chris Eddy, we made a commitment that his death would not be in vain. For the last 21 months, we have worked tirelessly to bring awareness to the dangers first responders face when responding to incidents involving refrigerated containers and hidden hazards. Today, that work continues to move forward with the introduction of Chief Chris Eddy’s Law, legislation that would require proper placarding of pressurized refrigerated containers to help prevent future tragedies.

No family, department, or community should have to experience a loss like this. If this legislation can save even one life, then every meeting, phone call, and effort along the way has been worth it!!!!!!

Thank you to everyone who has stood beside us, supported this mission, and helped keep Chris’ legacy alive. We will continue working to make the fire service safer for those who answer the call every day. 🤙🏼

Over the past week, GCFR crews have been sharpening their water rescue skills through hands-on training led by Battalion Chief Llewellyn.

Training included reviewing PPE and rescue equipment, practicing conscious and unconscious victim rescues, conducting hasty shoreline searches, and building proficiency with Marine 9. Crews also trained on navigation, pump operations, boater safety, emergency anchoring, and locating points of interest on Lake Oconee.

Members were also introduced to the new BoatEye system, which enhances navigation and operational capabilities during low-visibility conditions on the water.

A special thank you to Battalion Chief Llewellyn for his leadership and dedication to our marine rescue program. He did an outstanding job ensuring our crews remain prepared to serve our community both on and around Lake Oconee. 🤙🏼
