Last week, we hosted a MyChart training in partnership with Cone Health to equip clients to navigate and manage their health care online. We hope this will be the first of several language-based trainings to build clients’ confidence using MyChart. Thank you, Cone Health, for partnering with us in this way!

BREAKING: Congressional consultations are scheduled this week to adjust the 2026 refugee admissions ceiling. Media reports published today suggest that the administration will propose increasing the current refugee cap by 10,000 people and reserve these additional slots exclusively for white Afrikaners from South Africa.

Ahead of the consultations, Church World Service urges the Trump Administration to uphold the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program’s humanitarian commitment as more than 120,000 approved refugees remain stranded.

CWS Greensboro recently hosted a Rise Up for Refuge Listening Session to hear from community members and partners about ways they would like to get involved in advocacy, organizing, and civic engagement, and what support would make it easier to take action. We had a great conversation about the work already being done in the community as well as ways to come together and further support advocacy efforts.

Rise Up for Refuge is a national campaign launched by CWS and partners in response to growing attacks on immigrant and refugee communities. It is focused on strengthening and connecting community-led efforts already happening across the country and is built to support communities looking for guidance, resources, and ways to take action.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month—a reminder that every child deserves safety, dignity and protection.

In El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico, we work with regional partners to prevent violence and strengthen community‑led safeguards, including:

💛 4 local faith‑based organizations
💛 4 national child protection networks advancing regional protection for displaced youth
💛 570+ children and adolescents reached across the region

We’re also supporting the 2026 Regional Council of Children and Youth, organized by REDES Regional, a regional project for the protection of the rights of migrant children, adolescents and young people in these countries. This event will bring young leaders together to help shape stronger protection mechanisms in their communities.

This work is rooted in partnership—because lasting child protection is built locally, together.

Meet Kim, today’s shoutout! Kim and her team at Jamestown Presbyterian Church have set up countless homes for new arrivals and continue to serve families through donating food and furniture to newcomers. We’re incredibly grateful for you, Kim, and all you do to show welcome and care for people so well!

Kim says, “People ask me why I stay so busy even though I’m retired. I always tell them I retired from my job but not from life - I love my volunteer work especially with CWS - the families we work with bless us as much as I hope we bless them.

This is a quote that has always motivated me: “My faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can with whatever I have to try to make a difference.” -President Jimmy Carter”
