Guilford County Emergency Services and partner agencies will conduct active assailant training exercises near Maple St. and Vine St. in Greensboro on May 6, 7, 20, and 21 during normal business hours.
Community members in the area may see a large emergency services presence and hear sounds from the exercise, including simulated gunfire. This is planned training and does not indicate any threat to public safety.

GREENSBORO, NC (April 24, 2026) – On April 24, 2026, at 12:14 am, officers responded to 1508 Barto Place in reference to a missing 23-year-old male identified as Maleek Riveara. He was last seen at 7:45 pm on April 23, 2026.

He is a black male, 5’10, 130 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He was last observed wearing a black t-shirt, black pants, and dark-colored sneakers.

The missing person is believed to be suffering from dementia or other cognitive impairment.

Anyone with information regarding Mr. Riveara’s whereabouts is asked to call the Greensboro Police Department at 336-373-2287.

The National Weather Service has detected a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Winston-Salem, moving northeast at 55 mph.

Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest
floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.

Alert is issued until 1045 AM.

The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a tornado watch for Guilford County and surrounding areas until 2 PM. Stay weather aware and watch our social media pages and local media for updates.

A tornado watch is in effect for many of our counties until 2pm. For the counties farther to the east, it is likely that there will be a watch issued later today, but that would not be issued for a few more hours.
