French Fries has fallen in love with his foster mom, but now he’s ready to be adopted ❤️🍟

He was initially found as a stray at 2 years old and weighs in at 62 lbs. This guy loves people, gives the best face kisses and is happiest when he can be right next to his person 🐾 French Fries does wonderfully meeting new people in public and does well with older children, taking their treats gently.

✅ Around other dogs, he showed friendly, relaxed body language with loose bodies and big wags. French Fries has moderate energy and enjoys getting out to explore, but he’s just as happy settling down for a nap and some snuggles afterward.

French Fries can jump high when he wants, and may be able to clear a 6-foot fence. He’s a good leash walker once he gets the initial excitement out and is a smart guy who picks up training well with consistency.

His foster home has given him the chance to decompress, build confidence and enjoy the kind of routine he couldn’t get at the shelter, and he’s now ready to make a smooth transition into his adopter’s home 🥰

Adoption update 🥳 Sunny lost her leg from a gunshot injury as a puppy, but quickly found a family that adores her.

Sunny was only a year old when she was found running down the road with a badly injured back foot. Her injury appeared to have been caused by a gunshot, and it was severe enough that she needed to have her leg amputated.

Our medical team took great care of Sunny throughout her recovery, and once she was ready, she went into foster care to learn how to navigate life on three legs.

Less than a month later, Sunny met the family who would take her home 🥰 Now she has a brother named Beau, a family who absolutely loves her, and plenty of room to show off her personality.

Her family says she’s got plenty of sass and can run circles around most four-legged dogs. Now known as Daisy, she currently lives a spoiled life filled with birthday celebrations, adventures and love 🩷

After everything Daisy went through at just one year old, we’re pretty happy to see her spending her days doing exactly what she loves: running, playing, being sassy, and finally having a family.

Sprocket stays curled up in a ball in his kennel, but you’d never believe it once you meet him 🥺💔

Sprocket is a 3-year-old, 43 lb pup who came to us as an injured stray with blisters on his feet. He arrived very nervous and has been struggling with the stress of the shelter 😕 Once he’s out of his kennel, Sprocket is incredibly sweet, gentle and affectionate. He loves cuddling and will happily lean his entire body against you for some extra reassurance.

Sprocket is still building his confidence and would really benefit from a family willing to give him time, patience and plenty of positive experiences 🥰 He walks nicely on leash and has been non-reactive around his canine friends at the shelter. He’s a gentle guy who seems to feel much more comfortable when he can focus on the person beside him rather than everything happening around him.

Right now, Sprocket is stressed and needs somewhere quiet where he can decompress, gain some weight and start feeling like himself again 🐾 We think getting him out of the shelter environment and into a calm home or foster could make a huge difference for this sweet boy.

Sprocket may not show you his personality from inside his kennel, but give him the chance to come out and you’ll find a cuddly, gentle dog who just wants to lean against someone and feel safe. He’s ready for a family who can help him discover just how good life can be 🩷

Next weekend, Guilford County Animal Services will providing free rabies vaccines & pet food ❤️

Get your pet’s 1-year Rabies vaccine & pet food assistance for free on Saturday, September 12th, from 9am-12pm in High Point at our next Mobile Pet Assistance Clinic 🐾

🚗 Pets will not have to leave the car and this event is open to all NC residents. Pets 4 months & older are eligible. We will also have pet food assistance at this event for those in need.

Keep your pets protected! There have been multiple confirmed cases of rabies in Guilford County this year and the vaccine is the BEST way to keep your pets safe.

Make sure your pets are kept cool & secure. Note that vaccines will be completed in order of arrival and cannot be guaranteed based on arrival time.

It’s always Mojito time at the shelter, because this goofy boy is still looking for an adopter 🐾🍹

Mojito is a 5-year-old and 73 lb guy who was found as a stray on his finder’s porch. He’s an independent, playful dog who enjoys exploring, toys, treats and affection, but he likes to do his own thing.

He may get excited when leaving his kennel, especially when other dogs are nearby, but settles in nicely 🦮 He’s easy to leash, walks well without pulling and loves taking his time to sniff and explore. Mojito also appears to be house trained as he keeps his kennel tidy.

Mojito enjoys playing with toys and exploring the yard, but he’s not constantly looking for attention or entertainment ❤️ He’s happy doing his own thing and will come over for affection when he’s ready for it.

Because Mojito is a big, strong guy who can get excited around other dogs, we think he’d do best in an adult-only home where he can be the only pet 🐶 A home with another dog may also be considered with thoughtful, gradual introductions to make sure everyone is comfortable.

Mojito is ready to find a home and needs someone who understands his personality and is willing to let him settle in at his own pace.

Elwood spent 4+ days as a stray before he was finally called in, & now this Husky mix puppy is ready to be adopted ❤️

At 1 year old and 50 pounds, Elwood is a friendly, affectionate pup who loves nothing more than getting some attention and settling in for cuddles 🥰 He’s also a smart guy who genuinely enjoys training and already knows sit, down and shake. Give him some treats and he’s more than happy to show off what he knows.

He loves zooming around, playing fetch and bringing his toys right back so you can do it all over again 🐾 He’s treat motivated, eager to learn and would love a family who will give him plenty of time, attention and opportunities to keep his busy brain occupied. When he’s ready to slow down, he’s happy to lounge around in the pool or right by your side.

✅ He’s also done well meeting other dogs at the shelter in passing and seems very curious about making some canine friends.

Between his playful energy, love of training and serious appreciation for cuddles, Elwood would be a fun addition to an active home ready to keep his young Husky brain busy 💙

☀️Heat safety reminder: It only takes minutes for the inside of a parked vehicle to become dangerously hot, even if the windows are cracked. Never leave a child or pet unattended in a vehicle, even for a quick errand.

Help keep everyone by remembering to:
✅ Check the back seat before you lock your car.
✅ Leave an essential item, such as your purse, wallet or shoes, in the back seat as a reminder to check before getting out.
✅ Keep a visual reminder, such as a toy or diaper bag, in the front seat.
✅ If you see a child or pet left unattended in a vehicle, call 9-1-1 immediately.

Saturday is a chunky shelter dog who’s still patiently waiting to be adopted 💙

At 5 years old, Saturday came to us as a stray after a good samaritan found him wandering. He’s a big, smiley guy who loves attention and love from his people.

Saturday is a happy guy on walks and has a cute little wobble as he makes his way around 🐾 He’s gentle when taking treats, keeps his kennel tidy and is house trained. At 70 lbs, he could also benefit from losing a little weight, so his family can help him stay happy and healthy.

✅ Saturday has met other dogs at the shelter and remains relaxed when meeting new canine friends. He tends to ignore other pups in passing and keeps a calm demeanor.

He may jump up to say hello, but he settles quickly and responds well to cues like sit and down. Because of his size and enthusiasm, he’d do best in a home without small children.

If you’re looking for a big, affectionate guy who loves his people and is ready to settle into a home, Saturday would love to meet you 🥰

Every animal at the animal shelter has a different story about how they ended up here ❤️

Some animals were found wandering as strays or surrendered by families who could no longer care for them. Others came in because of changes in their owners’ lives, unexpected circumstances or situations where they simply needed more help than their families could provide.

We have hundreds of animals in our care right now, and new ones come through our doors every day. If you’ve been thinking about adopting, take a look at the animals currently available. You never know which story you’ll end up becoming part of 😉

These popular faces around the shelter are patiently waiting for families and a place to call home ❤️

These are some of our longest residents, and they’ve become very well known around the shelter. Our volunteers have spent time with them, gotten to know their personalities and have plenty of reasons why they love each one 🩷

So many of them have watched their buddies find homes while they wait patiently 🐾 For one reason or another, their person just hasn’t found them yet.

These are dogs our staff and volunteers know and care about deeply, and we’d really love to see them finally get their chance.
