A Simple Gesture engages the entire community to make Guilford County a wonderful place to live for all of our neighbors. Our goal is to end hunger by providing a sustainable supply of food to local food banks. Our 3 main programs are:
Green Bag Donors (Nonperishable Food)
1. We will deliver a green bag with a list of the items local food banks need the most along with a list of pick up
dates.
2. Every time you go grocery shopping, pick up one extra item, and store it in your bag.
3. On the designated day, leave your bag outside your front door. A volunteer will pick up your bag, leave a new one, and deliver the food directly to one of our food bank partners. Food Recovery Program (Perishable Food)
Food Recovery's purpose is feeding not wasting. We partner with food industry businesses like grocery stores, restaurants, and caterers to collect wholesome, fresh leftover food to distribute to vetted food agencies. SHARE Program (in partnership with Guilford County Schools)
SHARE is part of ASG's Food Recovery Program offered to Guilford County Schools. In the summer of 2023, ASG purchased refrigerators for all 126 GCS schools. Students can store unopened food in the refrigerators for any student needing extra. Since June 2015, we have collected over 3 million meals for children and families in Guilford County. Thanks to so many people and businesses participating A Simple Gesture, we are working to end hunger in our community.
