Great post from a local group, I love Greensboro>

For years in Greensboro, The Boar and Castle drive-in restaurant was the kind of place where a simple night out felt like a small event. Cars would roll into the lot, headlights cutting across the evening air, and soon trays would appear at the windows loaded with burgers, barbecue, and milkshakes. It wasn’t fancy, but that was part of the charm. It was the kind of place where friends met up after a game, families piled in for an easy dinner, and teenagers lingered just a little longer than they needed to.

There was something about the atmosphere that people still remember. The glow of the sign out front, the smell of the grill drifting across the parking lot, and the steady rhythm of carhops moving between rows of cars. On warm nights especially, the place seemed to buzz with conversation and laughter as people sat with their windows down, enjoying the moment.

For a lot of Greensboro locals, The Boar and Castle was more than just a place to grab a bite—it was part of the backdrop of everyday life in the city. If you ever pulled in for a meal there, what do you remember most about it?

The famous sauce

I’ve always loved Boar and Castle Sauce, which might just might be North Carolina’s best-kept secret. This all-purpose steak sauce and table sauce was born in the Boar and Castle Restaurant, a venerable old dining establishment that operated in Greensboro from 1932 to 1980. Anybody that lived in the area knew this place well. Housed in a castle-shaped building with gables, The Castle” (as it was fondly called by locals) was a popular gathering place for college kids and teens, as well as hungry families looking for hearty fare. The Boar and Castle was famous for its signature Castleburgers smothered in Boar and Castle Sauce, and friendly carhops providing parking lot service before drive-through windows were invented. Although the restaurant has long since closed its doors, folks in Greensboro and the surrounding area can still find Boar and Castle Sauce at local stores, but the tasty sauce has been virtually impossible to find outside of the Triad area of NC until now. Luckily, the internet has come to the rescue and this wonderful sauce is now available anywhere. One taste of this thick, rich steak sauce and you’ll be transported back to a bygone era. The mustard-tomato-vinegar base is spiked with just a hint of peppery zip, a touch of tamarind tang, and the pungent essence of anchovies to create a complex, savory sauce that enhances steaks, hamburgers, roasts, meatloaf, hot dogs, onion rings and french fries. Boar and Castle Sauce also adds great flavor to gravies, soups, stews, poultry, seafood and vegetable dishes. This sauce has stood the test of time, and is so good you’ll want to keep a bottle by your stove as well as on your dining room table
