The Greensboro Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Greensboro Urban Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) are hosting Safe Streets Week, a traffic safety campaign, November 10-16, leading up to the World Day of Remembrance. Both Safe Streets Week and World Day of Remembrance bring awareness to the lives lost in traffic-related crashes and the steps being taken to reduce and eliminate fatal and serious-injury crashes. The theme for Greensboro’s Safe Streets Week is “Slow Your Roll,” with an emphasis on reducing vehicular speeds. Speed is a contributing factor in fatal and serious injury crashes.

· Traffic Cone Display - Display and signage in front of City Hall will represent the 49 lives lost in traffic-related crashes in Greensboro in 2024.
· World Day of Remembrance Bike Ride – A bike ride in collaboration with Bicycling in Greensboro, The Community Bike Shop, and Major Taylor Cycling Club NC will take place on Sunday, November 16, from 1-3 pm. The 2.2-mile bike ride will start at the Greensboro History Museum, 130 Summit Ave. Riders are encouraged to bring their own bike and helmet and dress for visibility. A limited number of bikes will be available to borrow during the ride.

You can find more information about strategies the City of Greensboro has identified in the 2019 Action Plan at https://www.greensboro-nc.gov/departments/transportation/safety-programs/vision-zero-greensboro.

You can also follow the process for the development of an MPO region wide Comprehensive Safety Action Plan at https://www.greensboro-nc.gov/departments/transportation/safety-programs/mpo-safety-action-plan.

The Greensboro Urban Area MPO manages the federally required transportation planning process for the area’s highway, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian facilities. The Greensboro metropolitan planning area includes the City of Greensboro, the majority of unincorporated Guilford County, and the towns of Oak Ridge, Pleasant Garden, Sedalia, Stokesdale, and Summerfield.
