Today is World Bicycle Day. Did you know cycling is a highly effective, natural tool for improving mental health. It provides cardiovascular benefits that boost brain health while combining the mood-enhancing effects of physical exercise with the psychological relief of outdoor exposure.

-Neurochemical Boost: Pedaling triggers the release of endorphins (natural painkillers), dopamine (pleasure), and serotonin (the "happy hormone").
-Stress Reduction: Regular riding significantly lowers cortisol, the body's primary stress hormone.
-Mindfulness in Motion: The rhythm of pedaling and the focus required for navigation act as a moving meditation, keeping you in the present and distracting the brain from depressive or anxious thought loops.
-Cognitive Clarity: Increased blood flow and oxygen to the brain improve focus, clarity, and problem-solving skills.
-Confidence & Socialization: Achieving riding goals builds self-esteem, while group rides offer valuable opportunities for community and connection.

Incorporating biking into your daily routine isn’t just good for the environment and your physical health—it’s a powerful tool for enhancing your mental well-being. From stress relief and mood enhancement to improved mental clarity, connection with nature, and community engagement, the benefits of riding your bike are abundant and far-reaching. So why not dust off that bike, pump up those tires, and embark on a journey towards a happier, healthier you? Your mind—and your body—will thank you for it.

June has 3 very important Awareness Campaigns:
🧠PTSD Awareness Month
🚹Men's Mental Health Month
🏳️‍🌈Pride Month

National Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Awareness Month is dedicated to educating the public about the condition, breaking the stigma surrounding mental health, and highlighting that effective treatments are available.

Men's Mental Health Month is observed every June to break the stigma around emotional struggles and encourage men to seek help.

Pride Month is a vital time to address LGBTQ+ mental health, as the community experiences higher rates of depression and anxiety. These challenges are often driven by "minority stress" and social stigma.

We are for all 3 of these groups.

This month, National Alliance on Mental Illness ( ) announced the launch of a new initiative, the National Collaborative on Crisis Systems Innovation. Launched in partnership with Health Management Associates (HMA), the National Collaborative is designed to serve as a national hub for alignment, learning, and action in behavioral health crisis care, while supporting innovation across the full crisis continuum.

Although 988 has been a catalyst for transforming how people access crisis support, the work is far from complete. Communities continue to face challenges in building mobile crisis services, crisis stabilization options, workforce capacity, financing models, and public awareness, leaving too many people without access to the full continuum of crisis care they need and deserve.

The National Collaborative will address these challenges by providing a stable, trusted platform for shared learning, cross-sector coordination, and forward-looking leadership.

At our 15-year celebration of Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) work in Guilford County, we were honored to recognize someone whose vision helped make it all possible.

NAMI Guilford County proudly presented the CIT Founders Award to retired Captain Demarr Inman with the Guilford County Sheriff's Office for bringing CIT programming to Guilford County and for her many years of leadership and support of this work.

Her early vision helped lay the foundation for a more compassionate, collaborative response to individuals experiencing mental health crises in our community. What began as an idea has grown into a strong partnership across law enforcement, behavioral health, peers, and community organizations—and her influence is still felt today.

We are deeply grateful for Demarr’s commitment and lasting impact on CIT in Guilford County.
