Congratulations to The Historic Magnolia House!
BREAKING: North Carolina Green Book Designation and Magnolia House National Register Listing Approved by National Park Service!!
💚 HISTORY MADE. OFFICIALLY.
Today, we are proud to announce that BOTH of North Carolina's Green Book nominations have been officially approved by the National Park Service and the National Register of Historic Places in Washington, D.C.
✔ The North Carolina Green Book Multiple Property Documentation Form has been approved.
✔ The Historic Magnolia House has been approved for listing on the National Register of Historic Places as a Green Book Resource.
What does this mean?
⭐ North Carolina becomes only the SECOND state in the Nation with a Green Book Multiple Property Designation.
⭐ The Historic Magnolia House becomes the FIRST Green Book site in North Carolina recognized on the National Register of Historic Places.
⭐ A pathway is now established for North Carolina's 327 documented Green Book sites to pursue national recognition and preservation.
This moment is bigger than one building. It gives a voice to 327 buildings.
It honors the network of safe havens, businesses, churches, homes, and communities that protected Black travelers during segregation.
It honors the stories that were nearly lost.
It honors the people who refused to let this history disappear.
And it helps grow the representation of Black history on the National Register of Historic Places, where only approximately 4% of listings are recognized primarily for their contributions to Black American history.
As we enter the month of Juneteenth, celebrate the Centennial Anniversary of Black History Month, and the 90th Anniversary of Victor H. Green's Green Book in 2026, this recognition could not come at a more meaningful time.
From safe haven to national recognition.
From overlooked history to federal acknowledgment.
From preservation to permanent legacy.
North Carolina is making history.
Magnolia House is standing tall.
And the work continues.
So thankful for our partners who made it possible to accomplish this milestone!! NC Department of Natural & Cultural Resources North Carolina State Historic Preservation OfficeCity of GreensboroGreensboro City Council@richardgrubbs&associates
