Tomorrow will be the first day of school for all Greene County Schools! Please slow down, use caution, and watch for our children and school buses, as more traffic will be on the roadways!

Expect delays and congestion along the Lake Oconee Parkway Corridor from Interstate 20 to Carey Station Road due to construction and increased traffic.

Meadowcrest Spur is closed to through traffic, so use Towne Creek to Meadowcrest or MLK Jr. /Veazey Road to Walkers Church Road to Meadowcrest Road to get to Greensboro Primary School!

The Greene County Sheriff's Office has been made aware of one of the most recent scam attempts. Individuals identifying themselves as GCSO Deputies are contacting individuals and advising they missed court. In this case, Federal Court. They are using names of our deputies during their conversations with potential victims and advising them that the Federal Marshals have a warrant and will come and arrest them unless a fine or fees are paid. Please understand that this is a scam. The Greene County Sheriff's Office, along with the U.S. Marshal's Office, would not contact you by phone concerning an arrest warrant. We also would not demand payment over the phone for any reason. Sheriff Harrison urges everyone to stay vigilant and to never give out personal or financial information to anyone over the phone for reasons such as this.

**The picture attached to this post was a picture of a warrant sent to an individual during this most recent scam attempt. Please understand that with today's technology, documents can be created and look very official. There are slight irregularities in these documents to look for such as grammar, titles of individuals, and signatures, just to name a few.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office is seeking assistance in identifying the individual in this photo. This photo was taken on the Fire Fly Trail in Union Point at 03:52 a.m. this morning. If anyone recognizes this individual, please contact SGT Don Smith or SGT Thomas Moore at (706)453-3351.

The Cherokee National Enduro will be held this weekend in Greene County. If you plan on travelling on Hwy 15 North (Athens Hwy) near the area of Cold Springs Rd this weekend, please use caution in this area and be alert for heavy motorcycle and racer support traffic. There will be Deputies out assisting with this event.

The Greene County Sheriff's Office has found an abandoned boat. If you are the owner or know who the owner may be, please contact the Sheriff's Office and speak with Investigator SGT Don Smith.

We have received numerous call recently concerning scams. Recently there has been an increase in scam calls and texts messages. The calls have been primarily concerning jury duty. The caller is identifying themselves as active members of the Greene County Sheriff's Office, from deputies, investigators and including the Sheriff. The caller is telling individuals that they have missed jury duty and if they do not pay a fine by obtaining a Green Dot card, then warrants will be issued for their arrest. Please do not entertain these calls. The Greene County Sheriff's Office does not and never will contact you by phone and request you pay a fine by any means for things of this nature. Do not give them any personal or financial information. These callers tend to prey on your good nature and fear of being arrested. Just hang up and block the number from which they called from.

The other scam is the one that is being texted to individuals from the Department of Driver Services about an unpaid balance on an account for unpaid toll fees. This message often contains a link to access a payment portal and threatens that if payment is not received then your driving privileges will be suspended. Do not click on the link because it most likely contains a virus or a way for individuals to access your phone to gain personal and financial information.

Sheriff Harrison wants everyone to stay vigilant and be prepared if contacted by one of these recent scam attempts. Never give out personal of financial information during any type of questionable encounter such as these.
