Not one telecommunicator in California has ever received this award.

Not one in New Jersey, which is where I started. Not in Arizona, Colorado, Washington, Missouri, Maryland — twenty-five states, gray on the map.

That is not because nobody in those states deserves it. Somebody in Sacramento kept a kid calm in a closet last night. Somebody in Newark talked a stranger through CPR. Every one of those states is full of people who earned this ten times over.

The gray isn't a judgment. It just means nobody has written the name down yet.

That's the whole process. No committee. No voting. No shortlist. A supervisor, the person on the next console, a caller who never forgot the voice — somebody takes ninety seconds and says this one, and here's why. Then one of our State Ambassadors drives out to the center and puts it in their hands in front of their shift.

Twenty-five states gold. Twenty-five to go. Half the country.

Find your state. If it's gray, that's not a gap in our coverage. It's a name nobody has said out loud yet.

Go say one.

📚🚌 Back to School = Back to School Safety! 🚸

As students head back to school, Hale County 911 wishes everyone a safe and successful school year!

Please help keep our children safe by remembering:
🛑 Stop for school buses when the stop arm is extended and the red lights are flashing.
🚗 Slow down in school zones and watch for children crossing the road.
📱 Put your phone down and stay alert—those few seconds can make all the difference.
⏰ Leave a few minutes early so you don't feel rushed.

Parents, make sure your children know:
✔️ Their home address.
✔️ A parent or guardian's phone number.
✔️ How and when to call 911 in an emergency.

Let's all do our part to make this school year a safe one for every student, bus driver, teacher, and family.

Have a wonderful school year from all of us at Hale County 911! 💛🖤

Earlier this year, UAPD's Communications Division earned Agency Training Program Accreditation from APCO International, a recognition of our commitment to excellence in public safety communications. [bama365-my...epoint.com]
