The Center for Housing and Community Studies (CHCS) is a university-based research, evaluation, and technical assistance center. We provide technical assistance to governmental and nonprofit agencies as well as the preparation of working papers, research notes, and scholarly publications. We are actively engaged in funded studies of impediments to fair housing, continuum of care for the homeless, housing market trends and market segmentation studies, community indicators projects, asset mapping, county and regional community planning, and studies of the impact of housing on health.
Our work includes: development of community dashboards and indicators, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, fair housing analysis of impediments, focus group facilitation, geographic information systems, health impact assessment, housing stock assessments, market valuation analysis, neighborhood development and planning studies, policy analysis, program evaluation, survey research, technical assistance & consulting around participatory community action. We also are developing an eviction diversion program with the local courts, landlords, tenants, and advocacy organization and we operate a rapid response to opioid overdose program for Guildford County.
