Good Afternoon Falcon Families,
Thank you all for a great first week! Our students have been engaging with content, navigating the hallways and moving with purpose. We appreciate all of our scholars following directions, school expectations and treating all with kindness.
Families please continue to speak with your student routinely about our expectations and how to navigate situations when others do not meet expectations. We want our school to be the best learning environment possible and it will take each of us working together to make positive choices daily. If students see other students damaging bathrooms, throwing items or leaving trash they should let their teacher or nearest staff member know.
Schedules – This week we will start our B week encore classes. Students will go to their B week encore classes for the first time on Monday. If you or your scholar notified us of schedule concerns, counselors are still working through those.
Attendance & Check in/outs – remember every minute counts when student learning is happening. Please arrive to school on time daily. If your student has an appointment and will arrive to school late they need to check in the front office and go through the scanner station. If you are checking a student out bring in your photo ID and reminder we are not checking students out after 3pm.
Arrival & dismissal – Car Rider line is flowing nicely. Make sure drivers are paying attention to the staff to maintain the flow of traffic. Line C will remain open and should be used to ensure traffic is not backed into Woody Mill Rd. Lines B & C as they are directed should zipper merge into Line A to exit the parking lot and turn onto Woody Mill Rd.
Weekly Events:
Monday – Begin B week encore
Thursday – Boys Soccer vs. Jackson @ SEHS Soccer Field; Girls Volleyball vs. Jackson in SEMS Main Gym. Admission is 5$ cash or 6$ for online admission.
Parent Involvement:
PTO – Virtual Meeting 9/28 @ 6pm. We are looking for a parent representative for each grade level for our School Based Leadership Team. This team meets monthly and supports initiatives in our school focused on continued growth and improvement for SEMS. If you are interested in serving in this role email Dr. Lewis ([email protected])
Volunteers – Don’t forget to sign up for GCS Volunteers to support our school.
Together we are building our community so our Falcons continue to FLY. Focus on Fundamentals, lead with integrity to yield success.

Good Evening Falcon Families,
We are off to a great start. Several clarifications and reminders as we adjust to our new routines and school year.
Car Rider Line:
We appreciate all families kindness and consideration as we direct traffic and maintain a safe process to move students into and out of vehicles. Several reminders:
• Please do not drop your student off before 8:05 in the mornings and have them picked up before 3:55pm in the afternoon. There are not staff on duty to ensure their safety and supervise students outside of these times.
• All Car Riders should be dropped off or picked up in the car rider line. Do not drop your student off on the road and ask them to walk across traffic or enter the exit of car rider line to enter the building.
• Students should cross for lines B & C using the cross walk only. Staff will direct students to this cross walk to ensure your students safety in navigating the moving vehicles.
• In the afternoons, please pull all the way forward as staff direct you, even if you pass your student. They will walk up to your car to enter, this helps us keep the line moving to expedite your exit.
We know that working together and following procedures we can ensure our students are safely and efficiently transitioned into and out of cars.
Buses:
Students are navigating the exit to the buses well. Please remind students that buses will leave by tier and to move expeditiously to the bus lot when their tier is called to ensure no one misses a bus because they were distracted.
Dress Code:
As a reminder our dress code is as follows: Students should dress in a manner that is not disruptive to the learning environment. Any dress that causes a disruption to the learning environment is not permitted. Specific restrictions include the following:
- Hats and hoodies may be worn in the hallways, but must be removed if requested by an adult in the classroom
- Clothes that show undergarments or midriffs are not allowed. Shirts may not fall off the shoulder.
- Attire must be free from references to alcoholic beverages, to***co, illegal drugs and gangs.
- No offensive, vulgar, political or profane statements or visuals are allowed.
- Blankets, pajamas and bedroom slippers or shoes that look like slippers are not permitted.
- No bandanas are allowed in the buildings
Please help us by making sure your student meets these requirements prior to leaving the house in the mornings. General guidelines are undergarments should not be visible at any point, no lower backs or midriffs should be visible at any point in normal activity. If a clothing item or accessory is a distraction it should not be worn to school.

Our scholars are already hard at work building new learning communities, performing science experiments and solving math problems. I have been most proud of how our students have interacted with each other and our staff with grace and polite commentary. Helping fellow classmates find a room for their next class, picking up after themselves in the cafeteria and greeting staff as they walk through the halls. Our falcons DO GREAT THINGS!

08/24/2026

Falcon Families,
What a great first day at Southeast Middle School! We are incredibly excited to have our Falcons back on campus. Thank you for your patience, flexibility, and partnership as we worked through the first-day routines. Our students did a tremendous job navigating a new school year, new schedules, and new expectations.
As we move into Day Two, we want to highlight a few successes and provide several reminders to help us continue building smooth routines.
Arrival Reminders
Doors open at 8:05 a.m. Car riders should be dropped off on the GYM side of the building. Please do not drop students off in the front circle, as that area is reserved for special transportation and families who need to park and enter the building.
Please continue to follow the directions of our staff members and allow extra time during arrival as we establish routines. Safety is our first priority.
Dismissal & Transportation
Please make sure your student knows how they are getting home each afternoon. If your student's transportation plan has changed, please communicate that information to the appropriate teacher and school staff.
We appreciate everyone's patience as we continue refining dismissal procedures this week. Our goal is to ensure every student gets home safely and efficiently.
For questions about bus routes, stops, or transportation schedules, please contact GCS Transportation at 888-511-4427.
Parent Portal & Communication
If you have not already done so, please make sure you are connected to your student's Infinite Campus Parent Portal so you can monitor attendance and grades.
Also, please make sure you have joined ClassDojo and accepted your student's class invitations. Teachers will use ClassDojo as an important communication tool throughout the year. If you did not receive an invitation, please contact your student's teacher.
Follow us on social media for school updates, celebrations, and reminders. We currently have a Southeast Guilford Middle School page, and an Instagram account will be coming soon.
Athletics
Tryouts are underway this week for football, boys soccer, and girls volleyball, with cheerleading beginning Tuesday. Students must have the required current physical and concussion documentation completed before participating.
Questions about DragonFly should be directed to Mr. Howell or Ms. Mosley.

Get Involved at SEMS
We are excited about opportunities for families to become involved at Southeast Middle School.
Our transition to a PTO is underway. Please mark your calendar for our virtual PTO meeting on September 28 at 6:00 p.m. More information and the meeting link will be shared soon.
If you are interested in volunteering, having lunch with your student, or attending field trips, please complete the GCS volunteer application and background check process. Returning volunteers will need to renew their application for the new school year.

Thank you, Falcons!
The first day is always a day of learning—for students, families, and staff—and we appreciate your partnership as we establish routines and build momentum. We are excited about what this school year holds and look forward to seeing our Falcons continue to FLY. Focus on Fundamentals, lead with integrity to yield success.

If a student is absent, please send a note the following day and communicate with teachers and the data manager for questions regarding attendance. Review the family handbook for specific questions about attendance.
Students should be able to articulate their mode of transportation home to staff during homeroom. Please let your child’s homeroom/SOAR teacher know if you have concerns that your child might not remember if they are a bus rider, car rider, etc. If we have questions we will call you.
Remind students that cell phones, headphones, airpods, beats, etc should be turned off and in their backpacks during the instructional day.
