A New Chapter for Station 29

We are pleased to announce that, as of yesterday, August 20, 2026, Station 29 (Hempfield #2 VFD) has officially merged with the Hempfield Fire Department.

Station 29 now joins North Hempfield, Midway-St. Clair, and Grapeville as the fourth station to complete this process.

These are exciting times for the Hempfield Fire Department, and we are proud to welcome the members of Station 29 to the department. We look forward to continuing to build on this partnership!

The Hempfield Fire Department wishes all of our students, teachers, and families a safe and wonderful first day of school.

As buses hit the road and kids head back to class, we ask all drivers to slow down, watch for children at bus stops and crosswalks, and never pass a stopped school bus with its lights flashing.

A HUGE shoutout to the heroes of our communities—our local volunteer firefighters! 🇺🇸🚒

A heartfelt thank you to Hempfield Township, Bovard VFC Station 84, and the Carbon Volunteer Fire Department for helping us take this year's tribute to another level.

These incredible men and women not only volunteer countless hours to protect our communities, but they also took the time to help us honor and remember our Fallen Heroes. Their support helped create a truly meaningful experience for our Gold Star Families, Veterans, and community.

If you see these firefighters around town, please take a moment to shake their hand and thank them—not only for their service to our communities, but also for standing with us to ensure the sacrifices of our nation's heroes are never forgotten.

Thank you for helping us bring remembrance home.

Air Quality Alert!

Smoke from wildfires burning in Canada and Minnesota has moved into our area, and the PA DEP has declared TODAY (Thursday, July 16) a CODE RED Air Quality Action Day for Westmoreland County and southwestern PA.

Under a Code Red, the air is considered unhealthy for the entire population - everyone should take precautions, not only those with health conditions.

Today's recommendations:
🔴 Skip the outdoor workout, yard work, and strenuous activity
🔴 Stay inside with windows shut and air conditioning running when possible
🔴 Those with asthma, COPD, or heart disease - along with young kids and seniors - should remain indoors
🔴 Don't forget your four-legged family members; keep pet time outside short

🟣 TOMORROW WILL BE WORSE - CODE PURPLE FORECAST FOR FRIDAY, JULY 17 🟣
Friday's air quality is expected to reach Code PURPLE ("Very Unhealthy") - one level beyond today's Code Red. At Purple levels, serious health effects are possible for anyone, regardless of age or health status.

How to prepare for Friday:
🟣 Make indoor plans - now is the time to postpone outdoor gatherings, sports, and events
🟣 Wear an N95/KN95 mask if you have to be outside, and keep trips short
🟣 Hold off on unnecessary driving and anything else that adds pollution to the air
🟣 Look in on older neighbors and folks with respiratory or cardiac issues
🟣 Children and pets belong indoors until this passes
