Smiles, laughter, and excitement filled the air as Clairview School students enjoyed an end-of-year Carnival Day packed with games, activities, and unforgettable memories!

The carnival provided students with an opportunity to celebrate, socialize, and experience the joy of play in a fun and supportive environment. Events like these create meaningful moments that build friendships, encourage participation, and make lasting memories.

Congratulations to the 55 Early Childhood graduates who are ready for their next big step — Kindergarten! Today’s celebration at the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit was filled with smiles, laughter, and proud moments as families gathered to honor the accomplishments of the morning and afternoon students.

Fred Rogers once said, “Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero to me.” The heroes in our Early Childhood classrooms include teachers, classroom assistants, personal care assistants, speech, occupational and physical therapists, certified occupational therapy assistants, supervisors, coordinators, secretaries, and the Early Childhood Services Director — along with the parents and families who work hand in hand with our staff to help children grow and succeed in school and in life.

We are so proud of all these young learners have achieved and can’t wait to see what’s ahead for them in Kindergarten and beyond!

Students in the WIU Work Discovery Program recently visited two local therapeutic horse farms — Making Strides in Jeannette and Stoneybrook in Acme — for a day of learning and hands-on experiences.

Ligonier students traveled to Stoneybrook, while Hempfield and Clairview students visited Making Strides. During the field trips, students and staff learned about the benefits of equine therapy and gained a greater appreciation for the daily care, dedication, and hard work involved in caring for the horses.

It was a meaningful opportunity to explore therapeutic programs while connecting with these amazing animals and the people who support them every day.

Dr. Rebecca Henderson, Ed.D. and Dr. Rebecca McGee presented on Navigating the Use of AI in Special Education and Joe Rice, Student Services Supervisor/School Safety and Security Officer was part of a panel discussion that engaged participants with questions and answers around school safety and security.

The Westmoreland Intermediate Unit is seeking an accomplished, collaborative, and visionary educational leader to serve as Interim Executive Director. This unique leadership opportunity offers the successful candidate the ability to guide a highly respected regional educational service agency dedicated to advancing educational excellence, organizational effectiveness, and student-centered outcomes throughout Westmoreland County.

Minimum Education: Pennsylvania Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility or IU Executive Director PK-12 Certificate; Doctorate preferred

Minimum Experience: 10 years of experience in education; experience in central office administration, along with extensive knowledge of organizational leadership, finance, personnel management, capital improvement planning, negotiations, and strategic operations; Intermediate Unit experience preferred
