Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg Our mission is to serve the human needs of individuals and families, regardless of their religious affiliation. Bishop Hugh L. Connare and Bishop Anthony G.

Established in 1954 as the primary social service arm of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Greensburg and rooted in the Gospel and social teaching of the church, our mission is to serve the human needs of individuals and families, regardless of their religious affiliation, and to provide leadership in building collaborative efforts with parishes and communities in addressing these needs. The o

rganization's governance and management policies, practices, and procedures meet the highest ethical standards for nonprofits in Pennsylvania. Our mission was undertaken shortly after the diocese was established in 1951. Lamb invited religious sisters from Philadelphia to the new diocese to assess its human social service needs. With the support of Bishop Lamb’s successors, Bishop William G. Bosco, Catholic Charities expanded its original pregnancy and adoption services to include counseling, comprehensive information and referral, and others. Today, with the ongoing support of Bishop Larry J. Kulick, Catholic Charities remains committed to its mission to provide help and create hope for those in need throughout the four county diocese. Catholic Charities fulfills the church's role in the mission of charity to anyone in need by providing compassionate, competent and professional services that strengthen and support individuals, families and communities based on the value and dignity of human life.

Why Support Catholic Charities Counseling Services?

At Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg, we are dedicated to ensuring that every individual has access to compassionate, professional mental health care. Your generosity allows us to provide hope, healing, and transformative support to children, adults, and families throughout Westmoreland, Fayette, Armstrong, and Indiana counties.

Your donation helps us:

- Provide counseling services that provide students in Kindergarten through 12th grade with access to mental health professionals in a safe and familiar environment.
- Increase access to outpatient counseling for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families through our team of licensed professional counselors.
- Offer evidence-based Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) groups that teach emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and healthy coping strategies.
- Provide anger management groups for men, equipping participants with practical tools to improve emotional regulation, strengthen relationships, and build healthier lives.
- Support children experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, bullying, behavioral concerns, and life transitions in receiving timely care before challenges escalate into crises.
- Partner with schools, families, and communities to identify mental health needs early, promoting academic success, emotional well-being, and improved long-term outcomes.
- Reduce financial barriers so individuals and families can access high-quality counseling regardless of their circumstances.
- Strengthen families by providing compassionate, faith-informed care that fosters hope and builds resilience.

The Need Has Never Been Greater

- Mental health concerns among children and adolescents continue to rise, increasing the demand for accessible counseling services in schools and communities.
- Schools across Western Pennsylvania are serving growing numbers of students experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and emotional challenges that affect both learning and daily life.
- Adults and families are also facing increased stress, relationship difficulties, grief, and emotional strain, making access to professional counseling more essential than ever.

Every gift makes a meaningful impact. Whether supporting a child in a school setting, a family seeking outpatient counseling, or a man developing healthier ways to manage anger, your generosity creates opportunities for healing, resilience, and hope.

Together, we are building stronger children, healthier families, and more resilient communities—one life at a time.

In Pennsylvania, more than 1 in 5 children ages 3–17 experience a mental, emotional, or behavioral health condition each year, and school-based services are one of the most effective ways to reach them early. Research consistently shows that school-based mental health care improves attendance, academic performance, and early identification of emotional concerns—especially in rural and underserved districts across Western Pennsylvania.

In Western Pennsylvania, residents often wait weeks or even months for an appointment, while nearly 1 in 5 adults in the state experiences a mental health condition each year.
