This week's Greenup County historic photo takes another look at schools in our county. This picture shows the Russell High Class of 1918. The significance of this group is they were the first to be graduated from Russell High School. This photo was featured in Russell's 1962 yearbook as that was the last year of students attending classes at the old high school in downtown Russell.

A few interesting facts about the Class of 1918: This first graduating class consisted of thirteen students: twelve girls and one boy. A fourteenth class member, Clifford Collins, was not present because he had enlisted in World War I.

The students are (first row): Marguerite Rece, Margaret Williams, Margaret Meeks, Elmer Lacey, Bertha Osborne, Georgia Patterson, Myrtle England. (Second row): Carrie Rece, Lizzie Olive Tune, Inez Sutton, Rachel Smith, Essie Smith, Ada Rece.
