ReWa is involved in the Wildlife and Industry Together (WAIT) program, initiated by the South Carolina Wildlife Federation. This program assists corporate landowners in integrating natural wildlife habitats into their industrial sites and commercial properties while promoting healthy ecosystems.

Recently, WAIT led a snake safety training to help ReWa's team recognize and better identify the snakes they may encounter while working throughout our service area.

ReWa welcomed more than 30 members of the Environmental Council of States (ECOS) to our Mauldin Road campus for a behind-the-scenes tour. ECOS brings together environmental agency leaders from across the United States, and their visit to Greenville included a field trip to learn about ReWa’s work.

During the tour, participants explored how ReWa converts waste into renewable resources while supporting conservation efforts. It was an opportunity to share our innovations, discuss challenges and highlight the role utilities play in protecting water quality.

A ReWa team recently built our fourth oyster reef along Old Towne Creek in Charleston with South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. They used more than 13,000 pounds of recycled oyster shells collected at our drop-off bin near the intersections of Mauldin and Wenwood roads in Greenville.

Oyster reefs help reduce coastal erosion, support aquatic life and improve water quality. The reefs and the oysters produced along them are an extension of ReWa’s mission to protect South Carolina’s waterways from the Upstate to the coast.

Brentley Chapman, maintenance supervisor for ReWa’s water resource recovery facilities, authored an op‑ed in the summer issue of The Journal for the Water Environment Association of South Carolina - WEASC and the South Carolina Section of AWWA.

Chapman shares how ReWa’s maintenance teams have intentionally slowed down their morning routines to strengthen safety culture. Their Tailgate Talks are creating space for honest conversations and safer decision‑making.

As he writes: “We had to accept that we are a proud group. If asked, ‘Are you good?’ before taking on a job, we’ll most likely simply reply, ‘Yeah.’ That’s not good enough.”
