I wanted to share the human side of Winterville’s possible elimination of funding for Meals on Wheels in the upcoming fiscal year. If the grant funding is eliminated, 5 additional Winterville residents will be added to the waiting list, along with 14 others, beginning July 1 and will no longer receive daily meal service. We certainly understand cities and towns are facing difficult budget decisions and competing priorities. Feeding a homebound senior should not have to be a choice to make.

Their first round of budget discussions included a $10 million shortfall. After further discussion, they reduced it to roughly $5.2 million.
