🐾🦁 Gryffindor was probably the only option. 🦁🐾

I found that out recently during a Harry Potter event at the shelter, and honestly, I think they got it right.

See, if there's a trail to explore, I'm going to check it out. If there's something interesting to sniff, I'm already on my way. And if there's a log in front of me? Well... apparently I'm going over it.

One volunteer watched me launch over a log on a walk and said she was impressed. I don't know why everyone was so surprised. It was there. I was there. It just seemed like the thing to do.

I'm around 2 years old, 65 pounds, heartworm negative, and ready for whatever adventure comes next. I can be a little strong on leash at first because I'm excited to see the world, but once I get that initial burst of energy out, I settle down nicely. In fact, one of my favorite things to do is just lay down beside my person and hang out after a good walk.

The volunteers say I'd make an amazing adventure buddy. One even said she could picture me as a boat dog, spending my weekends exploring with my family and soaking up every minute of it.

But here's the thing people don't always expect about me. For all my energy and enthusiasm, I'm actually a really well-mannered guy. I listen well, keep a clean kennel, and I love being loved. I get along with other dogs, though I can get a little excited when meeting new friends, and cats honestly seem a little suspicious if you ask me.

I think the perfect family for me is one that's looking for a dog to be part of the fun. Whether that's hiking trails, spending time on the water, going for walks, or just hanging out in the backyard, I'm ready.

All you have to do is say, "Come on, Buster."

Trust me.

I'll be ready. ❤️🐾

🐾💛 Hi… I’m Winnie. And apparently I’m allergic to chicken. 💛🐾

I know. It sounds tragic.

But honestly? It just means I get the fancy treats.

One of my volunteers bought me bison treats, and I think we can all agree that I came out ahead in this situation.

I recently got to go on a Doggy Day Out, and let me tell you... I was a huge fan. We walked around town, sat in the shade, met new people, and soaked up all the attention I could get. I was happy to explore, happy to relax, and even happier when people stopped to say hello.

The humans said I was loving, cuddly, and chill.

Which seems accurate.

I ride great in the car, walk nicely on leash, know "sit," and take treats gently. I really just enjoy being around people. Kids, adults, strangers who become friends five minutes later... I love them all.

Before I came here, I had a home. I was loved very much, and because of circumstances nobody could control, I ended up at the shelter. It was one of those situations where there really wasn't another option.

I've tried not to let that stop me.

I'm still happy to see people. I'm still excited to get out and spend time with volunteers. I'm still the same sweet girl who wants to lean in for pets and be somebody's companion.

But the shelter is starting to get hard for me.

The volunteers see it. They know me well enough to notice when I'm having a harder time, and they're worried because they know this isn't where I'm supposed to be.

I'm heartworm negative, my adoption fee is half sponsored, and I'd do best in a home without cats.

Mostly, though, I'm just looking for my next person.

Because being somebody's girl?

That was always my favorite thing. 💛

❤️🐾 Hi… I’m Prince. Although apparently my full government name is “Princetopher.” 🐾❤️

I’m not really sure why the volunteers started calling me that, but honestly… it feels right.

I’m about 3 years old, 48 pounds, heartworm negative, and fully convinced I should be included in absolutely everything you’re doing.

Going for a walk? I’m in.
Car ride? Already in the passenger seat.
Sitting outside doing nothing? Sounds incredible.

This boy wants a human best friend SO badly.

I come out of my kennel excited to see people because I genuinely just love being around them. But once I’m out, I settle down quickly and walk beautifully on leash like the gentleman I am. I already know “sit” and “shake,” take treats gently, and try really hard to make people happy.

And once I’ve gotten my excitement out?
Total cuddle bug.

The volunteers describe me as joyful, affectionate, patient, goofy, and just a really, really good boy. The kind of dog that makes every outing better because he’s so happy to be there with you.

Honestly, Prince feels like the kind of dog that should already be somebody’s sidekick by now. 💛

Due to a dog on our stray side testing positive for parvo, Pitt County Animal Services will be pausing animal intake for the next 10 days while we complete quarantine and deep cleaning protocols.

Our main focus right now is making sure the animals currently in our care stay healthy and safe while we work through cleaning and monitoring procedures.

While we are not currently taking in strays during this 10 day period. The shelter will remain open for adoptions during normal business hours, Monday–Friday from 1:00 PM–4:30 PM.

If you have lost or found an animal, please continue filling out a report through our website so we can still help as much as possible:

Thank you all again for your patience, support, and understanding while we work through this.

🐾✨ Mischief Managed… eventually. ✨🐾

Last weekend’s Harry Potter volunteer event may have looked magical in the final photos… but behind the scenes? Absolute chaos. 😂

The dogs had very different ideas about being “proper Hogwarts students.”

We had:
🐶 tongues out in every direction
🐶 dogs trying to eat the house banners
🐶 volunteers crouched in the grass bribing pups with treats
🐶 escaped “wanted posters”
🐶 one very dramatic cone-of-shame Ravenclaw
🐶 and approximately 0 dogs concerned about photo quality control

Honestly? That just made it even better. 💛

These little events give our dogs a chance to get out, be silly, spend time with people, and just enjoy being dogs for a while — and our volunteers always make the magic happen.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out and helped with Mischief Managed: Shelter Edition. 🪄🐾

⚡🐾 MISCHIEF MANAGED: SHELTER EDITION 🐾⚡

The Sorting Hat worked overtime this weekend and officially assigned some of our shelter dogs to their Hogwarts houses… and honestly, some of these were a little too accurate. 😭

🐍 Margo — Slytherin
Pretty, confident, and absolutely aware of it.

🦅 Pascal — Ravenclaw
Thoughtful eyes. Big feelings. Mild confusion about the assignment process.

🦁 Buster — Gryffindor
Zero fear. Maximum chaos.

🦡 Humphrey — Hufflepuff
The happiest boy in existence. Would probably befriend a rock.

🦡 Prince — Hufflepuff
Sweet face. Gentle soul. Professional tail wagger.

🦡 Magnolia — Hufflepuff
Just here to love everyone and have a good time.

🦁 Nefertiti — Gryffindor
Main character energy from start to finish.

🦡 Retro — Hufflepuff
Tiny old man vibes. Big “snacks and naps” supporter.

🦁 Francisco — Gryffindor
Brave enough to survive the “Have You Seen This Wizard?” investigation.

🦁 Winnie — Gryffindor
Loud, goofy, fearless, and fully committed to causing a scene.

🦡 Moon — Hufflepuff
Sweet baby energy with absolutely no thoughts behind those eyes except happiness.

These volunteer events are always so much fun for the dogs — extra outside time, treats, attention, enrichment, and a chance for their personalities to shine outside the kennel. 💛

Huge thank you to our volunteers for helping make “Mischief Managed: Shelter Edition” happen for the pups this weekend. ⚡🐾

🕰️📺 Hi… I’m Tick, and I take Cat TV very seriously. 📺🕰️

I grew up here at the shelter with my brother, Tock.

He got adopted.
Meanwhile, I somehow became a full-time resident of the community cat room where I spend my days wrestling with my friends, supervising everyone’s business, and watching television like a retired old man with a schedule to keep.

And honestly?
I’m thriving.

I’m playful, social, dog friendly, and absolutely convinced every person who walks into the cat room came in specifically to hang out with me.

If you crouch down to say hi, there’s a very good chance I’m immediately in your lap, climbing your shoulder, or standing up dramatically like the world’s tiniest personal assistant trying to tell you something important.

I also make this face constantly like I just witnessed breaking news.

The volunteers say I’ve somehow managed to grow up at the shelter without losing any of my personality. I still act like every day is exciting, every toy is brand new, and every visitor could possibly be my person.

And while I do love all my friends in the cat room… I think I’m finally ready to graduate from “community cat room celebrity” to someone’s actual house cat.

Preferably one with snacks.
And maybe cable. 💛🐾
