Please join us in congratulating Tim Harshman on his upcoming retirement after an extraordinary 42 years of dedicated service in EMS and Fire.

Throughout his career, Tim's commitment, professionalism, and compassion have made a lasting impact—not only on the countless patients whose lives he touched, but also on the coworkers he mentored and the communities he faithfully served.

Tim earned his Firefighter certification in 1984 and his EMS certification in 1986. He began his EMS and Fire career with the Union City, Ohio, Fire and Rescue in 1984 before joining Greenville Township Emergency Services in 1995, where he has proudly served for more than three decades. He also served part-time with Arcanum Rescue from 1998 to 2003.

In addition to providing exceptional patient care, Tim was deeply committed to EMS education. As a Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) instructor, he dedicated countless hours to educating EMS professionals. One of Tim's greatest passions was mentoring new providers, and he took tremendous pride in helping develop the next generation of EMS personnel at Greenville Township Emergency Services. His knowledge, patience, and willingness to teach have left a lasting legacy within our department.

Tim's dedication to EMS and Fire has been evident throughout his career. His leadership, integrity, and unwavering commitment to serving others have earned the respect and admiration of everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside him.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to Tim's family for their unwavering support throughout his career. A career in EMS and Fire requires sacrifices not only from those who serve, but also from the families who stand behind them. Thank you to his wife, Tracy Harshman; his daughters, Sha-Nelle Osornio and Sydney Harshman; and his son, Andrew Harshman, for sharing Tim with our department and our communities over the past 42 years.

Tim, thank you for your extraordinary service, your dedication to excellence, and the positive influence you have had on so many lives. We wish you a long, healthy, and well-deserved retirement filled with happiness, family, and new adventures.

Congratulations Captain Kevin Subler! After 26 years of service, Kevin is working his final shift today! Throughout his career, he answered the call without hesitation, served his community with courage and compassion, and earned the respect of everyone who had the privilege of working alongside him. He set the standard through his professionalism and unwavering commitment to those he served and those he led. He was not only a trusted firefighter and officer, but also a mentor, teacher, and friend who helped shape the careers and lives of countless others.

Last week, our department joined other Darke County EMS agencies for Rescue Task Force training. This specialized training prepares us for mass casualty incidents where an active threat may still be present while we provide care to victims.

During the training we covered:
• Rescue Task Force equipment
• Patient triage
• Life-saving procedures
• Tactical coordination with law enforcement

Huge thank you to everyone who participated. Your Darke County EMS agencies had a good attendance for the 2 sessions that were offered. This training strengthens our ability to respond effectively during these type of incidents.

Special thank you to Deputy Fourman with Darke County Sheriff’s Office for Instructing and the Darke County Fairgrounds for their hospitality.

🚨 **Air Quality Alert for Darke County** 🚨

Smoke and fine particles in the air can affect everyone, but especially children, older adults, pregnant women, and those with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other chronic health conditions.

**Watch for these symptoms:**
• Coughing or throat irritation
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Wheezing
• Chest tightness or chest pain
• Burning or watery eyes
• Headache
• Unusual fatigue

**How to protect yourself:**
✅ Limit prolonged outdoor activities, especially exercise.
✅ Keep windows and doors closed when air quality is poor.
✅ Run your air conditioner on recirculate if possible.
✅ Consider wearing a well-fitting N95 mask if you must be outdoors for extended periods.
✅ Stay hydrated and keep rescue inhalers readily available if prescribed.
✅ Check on older family members, neighbors, and anyone with chronic health conditions.

If you experience severe shortness of breath, persistent chest pain, confusion, or symptoms that worsen despite treatment, seek immediate medical attention or call 911.
