As we start National Police week we would like to recognize one of our own. Recently Deputy K9 Muki lost his battle with cancer after a long astonishing career with the Bond County Sheriff’s Department. If you have worked for our agency in the last 8-10 years you knew the legend known as “Muki”.

Muki was “that dog”, the dog that most handlers get once in their lifetime. Always willing never wavering and a companion in the field as well as at home. He was the eyes, and ears, and the first one in on some of our Deputies most dangerous encounters over the years. His legacy will live on for many years as he truely was a one of a kind dog.

Muki had multiple criminal apprehensions over the course of his career along with multiple narcotics seizures. Muki had many accolades but a memorable event was when he located a hand gun in a wooded area that had been discarded from a shooting at a local apartment building. Deputies had only a general location of a large wooded area of where the firearm was thrown by the suspect. With minimal information to Deputies Muki was sent in on a search of the area in a dense summer forest and was able to find the firearm. This was not an easy task given the terrain and limited information.

Pictured below are some photos over the years of just a few of Muki’s glam shots. It also goes without saying we had two great handlers for Muki during his career. Handlers Doug Nicoson and Dylan Carr are pictured below with plaques that were presented by this Office in commemoration of their hard work and dedication to this community and the surrounding area.

Until we meet again Muki, we hope you have endless swims and plenty of McDonald’s cheeseburgers. We will take it from here.

🇺🇸K9 Muki you are now 10-42 🇺🇸

Thank you to our Correctional staff that keeps our jail running day and night! Your hard work does not go unnoticed!
