πŸšͺπŸ”₯ A FIRE SAFETY LESSON WORTH SHARING

We close bedroom doors for privacy, quiet, and comfort. But during a house fire, a closed bedroom door can also become a lifesaving barrier.

Fire safety research has shown a dramatic difference between rooms with an open door and those protected by a closed door during a fire. A closed door can help slow the spread of heat, smoke, and deadly carbon monoxide, potentially giving you valuable extra time to wake up, call 911, and escape.

That few inches of wood can make a life-saving difference.

πŸ”₯ The lesson is simple: CLOSE BEFORE YOU DOZE.

A closed door is not a replacement for working smoke alarms or a practiced home escape plan.

Make sure your home has:
βœ… Smoke alarms inside every bedroom
βœ… Smoke alarms outside each sleeping area
βœ… Smoke alarms on every level of your home
βœ… A practiced fire escape plan with two ways out whenever possible

Close your bedroom door before you go to sleep tonight. It could save your life.

Each graduate has put in countless hours of hard work, training, sacrifice, and dedication to reach this milestone. We wish every member of this graduating class the very best as they begin their careers in the fire service.

We also want to recognize the families and loved ones who stood behind these graduates throughout this journey. Becoming a firefighter takes more than the commitment of the individual. It takes the support, encouragement, patience, and sacrifice of the people waiting for them at home. From the long days of training to the time spent studying and preparing, their families have been there every step of the way.

To the families of Tucker, Cason, Ryan, and every graduate of this academy, thank you for supporting them and for allowing them to pursue a career dedicated to serving others. This accomplishment belongs to you, too.

A special thank you to the Spartanburg County Emergency Services Academy, its staff, and instructors for the time, dedication, and commitment they put into preparing these new firefighters for the best job in the world. Your investment in these firefighters will have an impact throughout their careers.

We would also like to recognize our very own Assistant Chief of Training, Chase Sanders, who served as the keynote speaker at Friday’s graduation ceremony. Chief Sanders shared words of wisdom, encouragement, and inspiration that will undoubtedly make a lasting impact on these new firefighters as they begin their careers.

Congratulations to Tucker, Cason, Ryan, and the entire graduating class! We are proud of you and look forward to seeing all that you accomplish.

Welcome to the fire service. Welcome to the brotherhood. πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’πŸš’

🚌 BACK TO SCHOOL = SCHOOL BUS SAFETY 🚌

As students head back to school, let's all do our part to keep them safe. Every school day, more than half of South Carolina's public school students ride a school bus, making it more important than ever for drivers, parents, and students to stay alert.

🚸 Safety Tips for Children

βœ… Arrive at your bus stop at least 5 minutes early.
βœ… Stay back from the roadway and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching.
βœ… Never run or play near the bus stop.
βœ… Stay alertβ€”avoid distractions like phones or headphones.
βœ… Wear bright or light-colored clothing so drivers can see you more easily.

πŸš— Safety Tips for Drivers

🟑 Yellow flashing lights mean the bus is preparing to stopβ€”slow down and be ready to stop.

πŸ”΄ Red flashing lights and the extended stop arm mean children are loading or unloading. You are required to stop.

Know the Law in South Carolina:
πŸ›‘ On a two-lane road, traffic in both directions must stop for a stopped school bus with red flashing lights.

πŸ›‘ On a multilane highway, traffic traveling in the same direction as the school bus must stop. Traffic traveling in the opposite direction may continue with caution.

Do not move until the red lights stop flashing, the stop arm is retracted, and all children have safely cleared the roadway.

A few extra seconds of patience can save a child's life. Let's work together to make this school year a safe one for everyone.

Slow Down. Stay Alert. Stop for the Bus. Protect Our Kids. β€οΈπŸšŒπŸš’
