So a local veterenarian can diagnose Black Leg Disease with a simple inspection and blood test that takes 2 hours, but the Department of Homeland Security / Texas Rangers / FBI / Texas A&M Dept. of Forensic Sciences and the local authorities took nearly 4 months to come to this medical diagnosis? Do they think we are all stupid? The diagnosis they came up with is primarily a problem for newly born cattle and is a result of their stomach linings not having the calus that occurs over time. So as they go through growth spurts these lining can become stretched and even torn which allows the infection to begin. However after about 6 months of age free ranging cattle (which these buffalo have been feeding from the land) become less and less suceptible to this disease. At 12 months the risk factor is less than 5% and the adult mother??? Well fully developed adult cattle are at 0 risk...and it is not something thats transmitted from an infected animal to a healthy one...its not contagious. So it appears we have another example of "The Tail Waggin' the Dog".
