The Weaponcraft program is looking to update our contact list and start a Group Me for active instructors. If you are an active member in the KY National Guard, have graduated the instructor course, and are interested in participating in mobilizations please send me a private message. I will need to know your phone number and whether or not you’ve ever taught a MOB or instructor’s course. Also, if there is someone you know who is not on social media but would like to become active again in the program, please send me their info as well. Thanks

This years Weaponcraft Instructor Course (WCIC) is 8-24 July 2022. Attendees should go ahead over the holiday weekend and take this time to put good food and water into their bodies!

Do not let the holidays dictate your health by causing you to be a heat casualty! In these high temperatures and humidity you’d rather maintain proactive hydration than reactive hydration!

Come ready to train! Come ready to shoot! Come ready to become the next Subject Matter Expert (SME) for your Unit/BN/BDE!

We look forward to seeing all attendees!!!!

Fundamentally speaking……….”Is what we’re doing enough?”

The new Army Integrated Weapon Training Strategy (IWTS) would venture to say yes but our range results and scores would say otherwise!

Our time on the range is more than the “quick zero” equals a “quick qualification”!

Ever heard the term, “shoot like your life depends on it?”

Now back to fundamentals…….
The new Six Table requirements offers not only the training requirements in order to be successful but it offers the drills and strategy behind success! Where it is lacking is the operator to allocate the munitions, resources (virtual and physics locations), and the mentality of individual success.

I would highly suggest for Units across the Force to sit down with the TC 3-20.40, assign a Marksmanship Master Trainer (MMT), allocate training time for Tables 1-3, and TRAIN, TRAIN, TRAIN!!!

When you think classroom, drills, and virtual training is enough then SHOOT, SHOOT, and SHOOT some more!! The bullets are out there for the taking!!

I would also suggest creating a “Weapons Team” amongst your force! The duties of this team is to stay on top of weapons training, qualifications, and mostly stay “UP” with the ever changing guidances within IWTS! They can also qualify periodically throughout the year and provide Commanders great “how to’s” in marksmanship success!

Just some food for thought!!!

Both rotations of the 223rd MPs during their pre-mobilization Weaponcraft training. Also pictured are 2LT Grosser and SSG Cobler following the re-enlistment ceremony during the MESAR. This video can be seen in an earlier post.

The 223rd MPs completed their Pre-mob Weaponcraft training over the last six days. On the last day during the Mounted Engagement Small Arms Range (MESAR), SSG Tosha Cobler re-enlisted while her fellow soldiers engaged targets. (SSG Cobler is also a qualified Weaponcraft Instructor) Congrats! 2LT Ashley Grosser swore SSG Cobler in during the live fire event.

Pictures from last night’s low light/no light training. Shooters learn to fire using multiple flashlight techniques with the pistol and they get to fire rifles using thermal sights and laser designators with night vision. Those rifle rounds striking steel at night looked like the 4th July!

The sun is setting here at WHFRTC and we are still hard at it. Preparing for our low light/no light portion of the course. Shooters will get to fire their pistols while using a flashlight as well as shoot at some long range targets with rifles using thermals sights and night vision with infrared lasers. More pics to follow once we start the night fire.

Many years ago the great Dennis Stockton created a competition for students in the Weaponcraft Instructor’s Course. There’s nothing really tactical about this, more for fun and bragging rights. Two shooters are given 10 rounds (each shooter must have at least three of the rounds) and they have to start at the 300 meter target working their way in to the 50 meter targets. The winning time for the students was 15 seconds flat. SFC Cole and SSG Rogers showed them how it was done by shooting all 7 targets in 8.4 seconds with no misses.
