In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others. Please take a moment to honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

We encourage everyone to attend this year's Back the Blue Memorial Ceremony at the Darke County Fairgrounds on May 16th at 6 p.m.

This week, the Darke County Sheriff's Office proudly joins agencies across the nation in recognizing National Correctional Officers Week.

Our Corrections Officers work tirelessly — day and night, weekends and holidays — to maintain the safety and security of our Darke County Jail. Their dedication goes largely unseen by the public, but it is the foundation of our entire justice system.

These men and women face unique challenges every single day. They manage difficult situations with professionalism, compassion, and courage. They are the first line of defense inside our facility — and they do it with honor.

To every Corrections Officer serving at the Darke County Jail-thank you. Your service matters, your sacrifice is recognized, and your community is grateful.
