Welcome to tornado season, folks! 🌪️⛈️

A few minutes of preparation now can make a huge difference later. Here are some important tornado preparedness reminders for your family including the furry members too 🐾

🚨 Tornado Preparedness Checklist:
• Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts
• Keep phones charged and portable chargers ready
• Know where your safe place is BEFORE warnings are issued
• Put together an emergency go bag with:

* Flashlights
* Batteries
* Medications
* Important documents
* Water/snacks
* Change of clothes
* First aid supplies

🎒 Kids Emergency Backpack:
Have a small backpack ready for each child with:
• Identification and important documents
• Emergency contact information
• Parent/guardian names and phone numbers
• A list of safe people approved to pick them up
• Written instructions on where to go in case of separation
• Comfort items like a stuffed animal, blanket, or small toy
• Snacks, water, and any needed medications

🐶 Pet Preparedness:
• Keep pet leashes/harnesses near where you sleep
• Have carriers easily accessible
• Include food, medications, and water in your pet go bag
• DON’T forget vaccination/shot records in case emergency boarding is needed due to storm damage or displacement

🏠 Where To Shelter During A Tornado:
• Basement or storm shelter is best
• If no basement, go to an interior room on the lowest floor
• Stay away from windows and exterior walls
• Bathrooms, closets, and hallways can offer extra protection
• Cover yourself with blankets, helmets, or mattresses if possible

🚫 Avoid:
• Mobile homes if possible
• Cars during a tornado warning
• Large open rooms like gyms or cafeterias

*Most importantly* don’t wait until the sirens are going off to make a plan. Stay weather aware and stay safe this tornado season! 🌪️💙

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we pause to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of firefighters here at home and around the world.

At Meriwether County Fire Rescue, we are proud to stand alongside a brotherhood and sisterhood that answers the call day or night ready to protect lives, property, and our community. This day is not only about honoring those who serve, but also remembering the brave firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We are grateful for the unwavering support of our families and our community, who stand behind us in everything we do. Your trust means everything.

And as the Jedi master likes to say… “May the Fourth be with you.”

To our firefighters: thank you for your commitment, your resilience, and your heart for service. And to firefighters everywhere today we stand with you.

Stay safe. Stay strong. 🔥🚒

Congratulations to several of our Meriwether County firefighters for successfully completing Fire and Life Safety Educator I!

We were honored to host this class this week in partnership with GPSTC. It’s always a privilege to invest in education that strengthens how we serve and protect our community.

A special thank you to our outstanding instructors, Beverly Walker and Laura Bogolin, for sharing their knowledge, passion, and dedication throughout the course!

🐰🚒 Happy Easter from Meriwether County Fire Rescue! 🚒🐰

Wishing all of our families and community members a safe, joyful, and blessed Easter Sunday! Whether you’re celebrating with loved ones, chasing kids through egg hunts, or sneaking a little candy when nobody’s looking 👀🍫 we hope your day is full of happiness and laughter.

And don’t worry we checked in with the Easter Bunny 🐇… he promised to practice good fire safety while hopping through Meriwether County. No candles left burning, no overloaded outlets, and definitely no carrots left unattended on the stove 😉🔥

As you celebrate, here are a few egg-stra important safety reminders:
🔥 Cooking Safety: Stay in the kitchen while cooking because the only thing that should be “smoked” today is the ham, not the house.
🕯️ Candle Awareness: Don’t leave candles unattended… even the Easter Bunny isn’t trained in fire suppression (that’s our job).
🐣 Easter Basket Check: Keep an eye on small toys and candy little ones move fast when sugar is involved!
🚗 Travel Safe: Buckle up, stay alert, and watch for traffic everyone’s trying to get to that deviled egg plate.
🌳 Outdoor Fun: Egg hunts are fun, but watch your step no one wants to explain a twisted ankle to the Easter Bunny.

Our crews are always here for you 24/7, even on candy-fueled holidays. Thank you for allowing us to serve this amazing community.

💛 Stay safe, have fun, and Happy Easter from your Meriwether County Fire Rescue family! 💛

On Saturday March 28 2026, Meriwether County Fire Rescue in collaboration with Ga Forestry Commission responded to The Cove/Chalybeate area of Meriwether County on reports of a wildland fire.

Meriwether County Fire Rescue could not access the remote area the fire was in so Ga Forestry was notified and requested.

Meriwether County Fire Rescues top priority was to provide protection for residences in the immediate area or threatened by the fire. After Ga Forestry arrived on scene it was determined they were going to request air support due to low humidity, high winds and the fire moving rapidly. Meriwether County Fire Rescue established water supply at the Roosevelt Warm Springs Airport to support Ga Forestrys Fire plane.

This was a unique operation for Meriwether County Fire Rescue and Ga Forestry to work together for the citizens of Meriwether County.

We work closely with Ga Forestry through out burn season and are proud of the relationship we have.

🚨 Meriwether Fire Rescue – Important Community Announcement 🚨

Meriwether Fire Rescue is committed to keeping our community safe and informed.

Effective immediately, we are implementing a new safety protocol for backyard gatherings and campfires:

All s’mores must now be approved by a certified Fire Safety Officer before consumption. 🔥

Our team will be visiting neighborhoods to ensure:
✅ Marshmallows are perfectly toasted (no blackened edges)
✅ Chocolate-to-graham cracker ratios meet safety guidelines
✅ Campfire enjoyment is fully compliant with local safety standards

This initiative is part of our ongoing effort to combine fire safety education with a little fun for the whole family.

We appreciate your cooperation and look forward to “inspecting” your next s’mores session.
