Throughout North Carolina, the Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program seeks to serve the best interests of thousands of children who find themselves the subjects of court cases by assigning them Guardian ad Litem volunteers. A Guardian ad Litem advocate is a trained community volunteer who is appointed by a district court judge to investigate and determine the needs of abused and neglected children petit

ioned into the court system by the Department of Social Services. The North Carolina Guardian ad Litem program is a services division of the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, and a member of the National CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate) Association.

We want to give a shout out to our volunteer Paula Williams! She has served 13 children over the past 4 years. She has 3 children pending adoption at this time and has achieved permanency in all the other cases. Thank you for all you do! 🩷

“I wanted to be a Guardian ad Litem because I wanted a way to give back to the children I was seeing in clinic.” ~ Dr. Leeah Reidenbach. Over the past two years, Dr. Reidenbach has served as a Guardian ad Litem child advocate in Judicial District 3, providing a voice for abused and neglected children in court. Today NC Guardian ad Litem participated in ECU’s Social Work career fair. We met a lot of great young professionals who are graduating in May with their BSW and MSW. We discussed their internships and future plans. We met one young lady who is completing her internship in one of our districts currently ❤️ and many more who stated they would love to intern with us! Many are also interested in volunteering too!
District 2 (serving Beaufort, Hyde, Martin, Tyrrell & Washington counties) and District 3 (serving Pitt County) had a great time and we look forward to continuing to partner with East Carolina University!
Also….Go Pirates 💜 💛 as we too are both ECU graduates!
