Join us behind the scenes with our overhead construction electric crews. This is where precision meets teamwork high above the ground and on the ground. These crews maintain over 1,236 miles of distribution lines and 80 miles of transmission wire.

A day in the life of these crews involves:
๐Ÿ”น Preparing work sites, which can take hours or days.
๐Ÿ”น Working from bucket trucks, elevated high above the roadway.
๐Ÿ”น Insulating lines with lots of bright orange blankets โ€“ safety first!
๐Ÿ”น Installing new poles.
๐Ÿ”น Replacing old poles.
๐Ÿ”น Working in tandem to bring wires down for pole replacements.
๐Ÿ”น Supporting major projects, many of which span for miles.
๐Ÿ”น Working with contractors on occasion as needed (like traffic control).
๐Ÿ”น Preventing outages with slow, controlled, and safety-focused teamwork.

Together, these crews keep our community connected with safe and reliable electric services!

โญ Big thanks to Carter Rochelle, Gas Service Specialist I, for his outstanding service!

Mr. Shugart called out Carter's professionalism in a 5-star Google review after Carter checked his gas line connection and indoor equipment, making sure everything was properly connected following work by a private company. Mr. Shugart described Carter as "professional, very knowledgeable, and thorough."

๐Ÿšง TRAFFIC ALERT - The Southbound lanes of Charles Boulevard are closed at Oglesby Drive (across from the ECU Baseball stadium and next to the Belk Building).

Our GUC crews are repairing a broken water line and hope to have the repairs made and the Southbound lanes reopened by 9 p.m.

If youโ€™re trying to drive southbound on Charles St. from 14th Street to Greenville Boulevard, please choose an alternate route. Do not drive around barriers put up near 14th Street.

Join us in recognizing our Human Resources team on International HR Day! This dedicated team of professionals wears many hats: hiring, onboarding, recruiting, training, developing talent pipelines in our community, and much, much more.

In 2025 alone, our HR team welcomed 59 new employees (which includes an extensive 1-year onboarding process of tours and workshops); promoted 71 current employees; assisted in the retirement process of 14 employees with a combined total experience of 408 years of service; held 21 workshops for employee career development; graduated our 7th iLead class, which is GUC's 10-month leadership program; held 5 supervisor workshops with 145 leaders; hosted our annual employee Health & Wellness Fair along with countless wellness activities throughout the year; coordinated the 7th year of GUC's participation in the local Tradesformers pre-apprentice program; and coordinated GUC's participation in 29 career fairs in addition to the annual week-long Grow Local tours with Pitt County Schools and the Greater Greenville Chamber.

Those numbers are simply a highlight of our award-winning HR team, but they are more than numbers. They are the backbone of Greenville Utilities, and we thank them for the many hats they proudly wear!

One of the great customer benefits to GUC being a community-owned utility is that we continualy reinvest in our systems to ensure safety and reliability. Often this process goes fairly unnoticed, but weโ€™d like to highlight a more visible project during Infrastructure Week, our water main rehabilitation project.

Since 2018, the oldest of GUCโ€™s water mains have been receiving an upgrade, and our Water Resources team is wrapping up the third phase of this project. During this phase, contractors are spraying a durable epoxy lining material into the mains after removing any buildup of sediment. This phase of the rehabilitation project is primarily funded by a $5 million grant from the American Rescue Plan Act that is distributed by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality โ€“ Division of Water Infrastructure. This project is expected to wrap up any day now.
