‼️The warming center will open on Friday night (Jan 23) and remain open 24 hours on Saturday and Sunday (Jan 24-25) to provide emergency shelter during this winter storm. We’ll resume normal operating hours on Monday with the goal of keeping the center open each night for as long as freezing temperatures continue.

The schedule for 24-hour operations over the weekend has been filled. This was our first priority. Many thanks to volunteers who will be working extended hours this weekend. These volunteers will need a break next week. This means we’ll need other volunteers to provide relief and sign up for next week’s schedule. We would like to have the schedule for Monday to Wednesday filled up this weekend.

❄️❄️If you would like to volunteer for the upcoming weeks, please consider coming to one of our training sessions listed in the thread below.

‼️The extended forecast for next weekend is calling for more freezing temperatures with precipitation. We’ll need to be ready to open the warning center again for three or four consecutive nights with the possibility of extended operating hours in the event of ice or snow.

To be fully prepared, we need more volunteers!

To help build our team, we’ll be offering orientation training for new volunteers this week at Wesley United Methodist Church (1200 E. Joe Ramsey):

· Wednesday (Jan 21), 1:00 to 2:00 pm
· Wednesday (Jan 21), 6:00 to 7:00 pm
· Thursday (Jan 22), 6:00 to 7:00 pm

Please spread the word. Invite your family, neighbors, friends, pastors, and church members to attend training. RSVP to: [email protected]

In a world longing for hope and healing, there remains a call that echoes through the ages—a call to follow Jesus. His path was not one of ease or comfort, but rather compassion, sacrifice, and selfless service. Today, that invitation is extended to you. Will you answer the call?

We look forward to seeing you at one of our training sessions. ❄️

The Community Warming Center at Wesley has been open four times this winter, providing warmth, comfort, and hope for our homeless neighbors on the coldest nights. Our continued success depends on the energy and commitment of community volunteers who step forward to serve. Volunteers are the heart of our mission!

We continuously strive to expand our wonderful team of dedicated volunteers. Recruiting new volunteers is important to ensure we have sufficient coverage in case we need to stay open for consecutive nights or surge to 24-hour operations in the event of ice or snow. This winter has been relatively mild so far, but we need to build our team to be fully prepared for the arrival of more severe weather in January and February.

If you would like to join our team, please attend volunteer orientation training at Wesley United Methodist Church (1200 E. Joe Ramsey) on one of the following dates:

· January 4 (3:00 pm to 4:00 pm)
· January 6 (6:00 pm to 7:00 pm)
· January 10 (1:00 PM to 2:00 PM)

This orientation is designed to ensure volunteers are familiar with center operating procedures and safety guidelines. It’s essential for all volunteers, as it equips you with the knowledge and confidence you’ll need to effectively contribute when you volunteer.

Please help us spread the word. If you’ve already volunteered, tell others about your experience. Invite family, friends, and neighbors to attend orientation training. Share this invitation with church members and work colleagues. Let’s do all we can to widely publicize this opportunity to transform lives, foster dignity, and instill hope.

The warming center is a testament to what we can achieve when neighbors come together to help others in need. By building a bigger and stronger team, we can continue to keep our doors open to ensure no one is left outside in the cold.

Please RSVP to [email protected] to let us know which session you will attend.

A look back at our first Warming Center season at Wesley UMC Greenville; and an invitation to join us in making this winter a little warmer for everyone.
