United Housing Connections

United Housing Connections We’re on a mission to connect people at-risk for or currently experiencing homelessness with safe, sustainable and affordable homes.

To that end, we build and manage affordable housing for low-income people and provide prevention and housing programs. Ultimately, we envision an Upstate SC where all people have the opportunity to live in a safe, sustainable and affordable home.

Meet Sarah Finley! Our Shelter Plus Care Case Manager and someone who has spent eight years doing the kind of nonprofit work that changes lives.

Before joining United Housing Connections, Sarah built her foundation at the Salvation Army and Thrive Upstate. Now, one year in, she's part of UHC's Shelter Plus Care program, a HUD-funded initiative providing long-term rental assistance to individuals and families living with a mental health disability across Upstate SC.

We're glad to have her a part of the team!

An address isn't just a place to receive mail. It's how you get the job. It's how you see the doctor. It's how you open a bank account and start building something stable.

Since 1995, United Housing Connections has worked to make that starting point possible for people in Upstate SC. Because you can't move forward without somewhere to begin.

Share this with someone who believes every person deserves that chance.

Home is the place that says: you're supposed to be here.

A stable address connects people to more than a neighborhood. It connects them to community, to neighbors, to a sense of identity that housing instability quietly strips away.

At UHC, we don't just find people a place to live. We help them find a place to belong. Because belonging isn't a luxury. It's part of what makes us human.

And everyone deserves to feel it.

75% of adults say quality sleep has a direct, positive impact on how they feel.

We believe it. And we also know this: quality sleep is nearly impossible without a safe, stable place to rest.

A home isn't just shelter. It's where healing happens. Where the body recovers. Where tomorrow feels like something worth waking up for.

Chronic homelessness isn't a choice. It's a circumstance, often shaped by disability, trauma, or a system that failed someone long before they ended up without a home.

By definition, it means experiencing homelessness repeatedly or continuously for a year or more. Permanent supportive housing, meaning without a designated length of stay for those experiencing chronic homelessness.

At UHC, we believe every person needs more than a temporary fix. That's why our work goes beyond finding someone a place to stay. We walk alongside our neighbors with wraparound support, individualized services, and a long term commitment to their stability and wellbeing.

A front door. A mailbox. A place to begin. Because no one should live without those things.

When you give locally, you see the difference.

You drive past it. You live alongside it. You know the counties, the streets, the faces that make up this community, and your support stays right here, where it's needed most.

For 30+ years, UHC has been showing up for the Upstate. Not from a distance. Not with a national campaign. But neighbor to neighbor, county to county, one home at a time.

School's almost out, and for families experiencing housing instability, summer can be one of the hardest seasons.

The free meals, the structure, the counselors who check in. So much of the safety net that holds kids together during the school year disappears in June. For children already navigating uncertainty at home, that gap is real.

UHC's Home Again program works with families year-round, because kids in Greenville County Schools deserve stability every single day, not just when the bell rings.

Serious mental illness and homelessness often go hand in hand. And for people living at that intersection, a roof alone isn't enough.

Through the Shelter Plus Care program, UHC serves individuals experiencing homelessness who are also living with a serious mental illness. As a sub-recipient of this grant through the SC Department of Mental Health, we provide supportive housing paired with the services people need to stabilize, heal, and stay housed.

Because housing works best when it comes with support.

Before the job. Before the savings account. Before the kids are settled in school. There has to be a home.

Stability doesn't appear out of thin air. It grows from something solid. Something safe. Somewhere to return to at the end of the day and call yours.

Without that foundation, everything else becomes harder than it should be. Finding work. Staying healthy. Planning for next week, let alone next year. The smallest tasks carry the heaviest weight when you don't know where you'll sleep tonight.

At UHC, we start there. With a door. With a key. With a place that belongs to you. Because everything else follows.
