Last week, we recognized Hilliard Brown as he concluded more than 14 years of service with our Family Court Support Enforcement Department. Today, he began his next chapter in public service.

Hilliard previously served as a deputy with the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and has also served as a chaplain. Today, Sheriff Hobart Lewis joined us as Hilliard began his service as a deputy with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, and Clerk of Court Jay Gresham administered his oath of office.

Hilliard will continue serving in our courts through the Judicial Services Division, helping provide security for our court officials, employees, and the public.

We thank Hilliard for his many years of service to the Clerk of Court’s Office and look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role.

Congratulations to Magistrate Judge Carrie Cotton on her swearing-in today.

Judge Cotton previously served as an investigator with the 13th Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office, where several members of our team had the opportunity to work alongside her, including Clerk of Court Jay Gresham during his time as a prosecutor.

That shared history made it especially meaningful for our office to celebrate this milestone with her. We congratulate Judge Cotton and wish her well as she begins her service on the bench in Greenville County.

Deputy Clerk Annie Rogers, who oversees operations at our Family Court office, recently visited the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Training Complex as part of Greenville County’s Leadership Development Program, getting a firsthand look at the work and resources of the Sheriff’s Office.

One familiar face was Deputy Joe Bouton. Joe serves with the Sheriff’s Office Judicial Services Division and is assigned to Family Court, where he works closely with our staff each day. He also assists from time to time at Circuit Court and serves with the Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit.

Our offices work side by side in the courts every day, particularly when it comes to courthouse security and keeping court operations running smoothly. Opportunities like this help County employees better understand each other’s roles and strengthen the working relationships that help us serve the public better.

Thank you to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office for hosting the group, and especially to Joe and our Judicial Services deputies for the work they do each day in support of our courts.
