After all her adventures, we finally found Meep! She is ready to go and waiting for our team in the mosquito spray truck!
What better place for our intern to be on World Mosquito Day than learning about one of the many tools used to help protect our community from mosquitoes. Treatments are carefully planned using surveillance data, service requests, and other environmental factors to target areas where mosquito activity is highest.
Since Meep is riding along today, she wanted to share a few mosquito spray truck safety reminders:
• Give the spray truck plenty of space.
• Pass only when it is safe and legal to do so.
• Be patient! Spray trucks travel at slow speeds and may make frequent stops as they treat designated areas.
• Stay alert for workers and equipment.
World Mosquito Day recognizes the importance of mosquito-borne disease prevention and the work being done around the world to protect public health. We're proud to do our part right here in Pitt County!
Thanks for following along with Meep's internship adventures. We can't wait to show you where she pops up next!

Today, Meep is helping review maps used to plan treatment areas!

Before a truck ever heads out to treat adult mosquitoes, our team carefully reviews maps to identify where treatments are needed based on surveillance data, service requests, and environmental factors. Every line and highlighted area helps ensure treatments are targeted, efficient, and focused on where they'll have the greatest impact.

Meep is learning that mosquito control is about much more than spraying—it's about using data, and careful planning to protect public health.
We haven’t been able to spot Meep yet, have you? Where in the world could she be?

Our intern, Meep, has been busy learning the ins and outs of mosquito identification!

Today, she's studying mosquito identification materials and following a mosquito's "flight path" to learn how vector control professionals identify different species.

It may seem like a small detail, but proper mosquito identification is a big part of protecting public health. Knowing which species we are dealing with helps us understand where they breed, what diseases they may carry, and the best ways to manage them.

Meep had already buzzed off before we could spot her, where in the world could she be now?

Meet our Vector Control Program interns, Haleema and Aniyah!

Through partnerships with local universities, we are able to give students real-world experience in public health and vector control, helping them build skills and confidence they'll carry into their future careers.

During their internships, Haleema and Aniyah have gained experience with mosquito surveillance, field operations, research, and community outreach.

We're so proud of all they've accomplished and can't wait to see where their careers take them!

Oh! Did you see someone fly by? Meep the mosquito intern was supposed to be present for pictures, but we didn't see her. Where in the world could she be?
