Fourth-grade teachers: Want to help us test a new way to teach one of the biggest stories in Miami Valley history? 🌊📚

The Miami Conservancy District is working with Field in Sight Consulting to develop a new Great 1913 Flood Curriculum for fourth-grade classrooms — and we’re looking for Miami Valley teachers to help pilot test it.

The curriculum connects the story of the Great Flood of 1913 and our region’s response to multiple Ohio fourth-grade science and social studies standards, giving students a chance to explore local history, watersheds, flooding, engineering and the decisions that shaped the Miami Valley we know today.

Pilot teachers will:

* Attend a training on Thursday, September 17, from noon–3/3:30 p.m.
* Review and test three lessons
* Complete a feedback sheet to help us make the curriculum as useful as possible for teachers and students
* Receive a $125 Amazon gift card for completing the review
* And — because we think learning is better when you can see it for yourself — tour Huffman Dam as part of the training!

Training will be held at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center.

Interested? Contact [email protected] to schedule a brief phone or video interview.

Once completed, the curriculum will be available FREE to educators.

Know a fourth-grade teacher who would be great at this? Please share this post or tag them below.

We can’t wait to see this story come to life in Miami Valley classrooms.
