Today, the Greenwich Police Department had the privilege and honor of joining law enforcement officers from across the state and nation to honor the life and service of fallen Rittman Police Sgt. Scott Ries.

We extend our deepest condolences to the officer's family, friends, coworkers, and the entire law enforcement community during this difficult time. Today's service was a solemn reminder of the courage, dedication, and selfless commitment demonstrated every day by those who wear the badge.

We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside our brothers and sisters in blue to pay our respects and honor a life dedicated to serving and protecting others. The support shown by the community and fellow public safety professionals reflects the lasting impact of Sergeants Ries service and sacrifice.

Please keep his loved ones and agency in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate the days ahead.

The Greenwich Police Department sends our condolences and prayers to the City of Rittman Police Department, Wayne County Sheriff's Office and surrounding agencies along with the family and friends of the Rittman officer who was killed in the line of duty last night. Also sending prayers to those officers & k9 who were injured.

Good Monday! We hope everyone had a very Happy 4th of July weekend and enjoyed the Fireman's Festival. The festival went well for the police department as there were no major calls for service or complaints just some EMS runs. Here are the police calls and activity for June 29 through July 05.

June 29:
11:13 pm, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement detail on Townsend Street. During this time, no equipment or traffic violations occurred.

June 30:
11:07 pm, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement detail on Townsend Street. During this time, no equipment or traffic violations occurred.

July 01:
1:53 pm, an officer was dispatched and responded to Woodlyn Acres residence at the request of the Huron County Sheriff in refence to a Domestic Dispute. Officer arrived and secured the scene until deputies arrived.

July 02:
6:48 pm, an officer was dispatched and responded to a South Kniffin Street residence for a Mental Health call.

July 03:
1:03 am, an office conducted a traffic stop for a Driver's License violation. The driver was issued a traffic citation for the violation.

2:37 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop for a Stop Sign violation which occurred at the intersection of South Railroad and Main Street. The driver was given a verbal warning for the violation.

3:18 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop for a Speeding violation which occurred on Townsend Street. The driver was issued a traffic citation for the violation.

3:39 pm, a subject came to the police department requesting a complaint form. They completed a written statement and a report was taken.

July 04:
11:59 am, an officer was dispatched and responded to a West Main Street residence for an EMS call. Officer arrived on scene and assisted until no longer needed.

9:11 pm, an officer conducted a traffic stop for an Expired Registration violation which occurred on Townsend Street. The driver was given a verbal warning for the violation.

July 05:
9:54 am, an officer conducted traffic control on Main Street due to the CSX railroad crossing malfunctioning until the issue was resolved.

10:41 am, an officer responded to Reservoir Park baseball field #3 for a child which had been struck by a ball. North Central EMS arrived on scene, and the child was transport to Fisher-Titus Hospital.

2:50 pm, an officer was dispatched and responded to assist North Central EMS for an individual who burnt their arm. The patient was treated by EMS and refused to be transported.

6:20 pm, an officer responded to Reservoir Park for a non-injury private property crash.

A good samaritan turned in a small pocketbook/handbag which was found in the area of the Firemans Festival. It is currently at the Police Department. If this belongs to you and you are able to describe it and the contents in it, please call us at 419-752-2681.
