The National Weather Service is forecasting a period of hot and humid weather through Friday, with heat index values expected to approach or exceed 100°F during the afternoon hours, particularly on Thursday and Friday. The highest heat indices are expected between noon and 6:00 PM each day.

In addition to the heat, there is the potential for isolated to scattered strong to severe thunderstorms each afternoon and evening from today through Friday.

Potential hazards include:

-Damaging wind gusts capable of bringing down trees and power lines
-Localized power outages
-Large hail
-Heavy rainfall with localized flash flooding.

🚗 CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY PSA 🚗

Did you know that car seats reduce the risk of serious injury and death in a crash when installed and used correctly? Unfortunately, many car seats are installed improperly, putting children at unnecessary risk.

✔ Make sure the car seat is the correct size for your child’s age, height, and weight
✔ Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions
✔ Ensure the seat is tightly secured it should not move more than 1 inch side to side
✔ Keep children rear-facing as long as possible
✔ Double check harness straps are snug and chest clip is at armpit level

A properly installed car seat can save a life. Take the time to check your installation or visit a certified child passenger safety technician for assistance.

Your child’s safety starts before the vehicle even leaves the driveway.

As temperatures rise and outdoor activities increase, the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company wants everyone to have a fun and safe summer! Keep these important safety tips in mind:

🔥 Grilling Safety• Keep grills at least 10 feet away from homes, decks, and anything flammable• Never leave a grill unattended while cooking• Make sure propane connections are secure before lighting

🚴 Bike & Outdoor Safety• Always wear a helmet while biking or skating• Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade during extreme heat• Use sunscreen and reapply often

🏊 Water Safety• Never leave children unattended near pools or water• Ensure pools are secured with proper fencing and locked gates• Wear life jackets when boating or participating in water sports

🎆 Fireworks Safety• Leave fireworks to the professionals• Sparklers can burn at extremely high temperatures and cause serious injuries• Attend local public fireworks displays instead of using fireworks at home

🚒 Emergency Access• Never block fire hydrants or emergency access roads• Move over for emergency vehicles and give firefighters room to work

🌞 Heat Safety Alert from Glenville Volunteer Fire Company 🚨

Summer heat can be dangerous. Knowing the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke can save lives.

Heat Exhaustion – Warning Signs
•Headache, dizziness, or fainting
•Weakness and sweating
•Confusion or difficulty concentrating
•Nausea or vomiting

What to do:
•Move to a cooler place, preferably indoors or shade
•Drink water or electrolyte beverages
•Loosen tight clothing
•Rest and monitor symptoms

Heat Stroke – Medical Emergency
•Confusion or inability to think clearly
•Lack of sweating, hot and dry skin
•Red, flushed skin
•Passing out, seizures, or unconsciousness

What to do:
•Call 911 immediately – heat stroke is life-threatening
•Move the person to a cool area
•Cool them with wet cloths, fans, or immersion in cool water
•Do not give fluids if they are unconscious or having seizures

Although yesterday’s Memorial Day Parade was canceled due to the cold and rainy weather, we were still honored to gather together indoors for a brief ceremony to remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. 🇺🇸

Thank you to everyone who came out despite the weather to support this important day of remembrance. Your continued support means so much to our department and community.

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend it is a solemn reminder of the price of freedom. Today, we honor the brave men and women who answered the call to serve and gave everything they had, including their lives, so that we may live ours in peace.

Heroes never truly die. Their courage lives on in the freedoms we enjoy, in the flag that waves proudly, and in the hearts of a grateful nation. Their sacrifice is a legacy one that reminds us to stand united, to live with purpose, and to never take a single moment of liberty for granted.

As you gather with family and friends, take a moment to reflect. Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Because of them, we are free.

Come out on May 24th at 5:00 PM and show your support as we honor those who served.

The parade begins on Glenville Street at Walker Court and proceeds to the Glenville Firehouse, where a ceremony will follow.
