As bear sightings in and around Greenwood Village continue, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is reporting record-breaking bear activity statewide, driven by ongoing drought and wildfire conditions that have decimated their food supply.

In this home security video from Saturday night, a bear wanders through a resident's yard in The Preserve neighborhood. To help ensure community safety, please review and share these tips:

🚫 Never feed or approach bears.
πŸ—‘οΈ Secure garbage and recycling. Wait until trash day to put out your bins and bring them in from the curb as soon as possible.
🐦 Remove bird feeders and other possible food sources from your yard, such as fallen fruit.
🐢 Always walk pets on a leash and do not leave pet food outdoors.
♨️ Clean grills after each use. Store clean grills and smokers in a secure area that keeps bears out.
🐻 If a bear enters your yard, do not try to scare it away. Go inside and allow the bear to leave on its own.
πŸ“² Report bear sightings to Colorado Parks & Wildlife's NE Region Office at 303-291-7227. Select "0" to leave a voicemail with location details, or "5" to speak to someone directly. Always call 911 in an emergency.

Greenwood Village Police love seeing all the wonderful first-day-of-school photos every year! 🍎 To help keep everyone safe, GVPD recommends avoiding sharing personal details like school names, teachers, ages, or birthdays. Check your backgrounds for things like house numbers and license plates, consider tightening your privacy settings, and maybe hold off on posting in real time. And don’t forget to get permission before including other students.

School Resource Officer Rodney Valenzuela wishes everyone an amazing (and safe) school year! πŸ“
